IN MOST SENTENCES, the first half is never true. If someone apologizes and asks for your name afterwards, they aren't sorry.

It was what you reminded yourself as you left your room and thought about your odd conversation with Alastor. It wasn't that he made you uncomfortable, just the opposite. There was something about him that made you feel like he was trustworthy and that you could confide in anything in him. He had a way of speaking that made you feel listened to and respected, which was comforting in a way that you hadn't felt in a long time.

He was quite a gentleman—a truly rare find down here. Charlie's shenanigans were being monitored by him before you arrived, which was appreciated. It's now your responsibility to do so. However, some people might argue that it is not the job of one person to monitor everyone else's behaviour. Instead, it is the responsibility of everyone to be aware of their actions and to hold themselves accountable.

In all aspects, Alastor was both beneficial and detrimental to the company. He had many years of business expertise under his belt, and along with his terrifying reputation, the hotel would be safe. Mostly. For instance, his use of intimidation tactics to keep staff in line was effective. However, it ultimately caused a high turnover rate and a poor reputation for the hotel in the local community.

There were cons to Alastor's presence, too. He was a magnet for trouble, and with many enemies, Alastor (and often anything around him) was a massive target for attacks. Alastor also lies about virtually anything he can, to the point of confusion. He is a hard-to-read man, especially with that stupid smile on his face at all times. Unbeknownst to him, most of his emotions were revealed in his eyes. It was the tiniest advantage you had over him. His emotional transparency was like a secret window, allowing a glimpse into his inner thoughts and feelings in a way that he didn't intend. But, you know, if you looked him in the eyes for too long, he'd get all shifty and look away. It was like he knew he was giving away too much information!
