JJ POV: (i know surprising)

As I looked at the bench after our drills, I expected Mel and Robbie to be sitting there. However, to my surprise, it was only Robbie who was looking at his phone.

I walked up to him: „Robbie where is Mel?"
He looked up at me and pointed in one direction. I looked that way, but found no one.

„Are you high again or something? No one is there?" He quickly looked up and his eyes got wild.

„Fuck." He cursed as he stood up and started running.

„Where are you running you idiot?" I asked as I caught up with him. His not very fast runner.

"That badass defender from your, you know, England team. Then she walked over to talk to her and I don't know what happened afterwards. He rambled while running towards the school building. "What if...what if...?" he pondered.

„Robbie stop, you are making no sense at all, defender?" We stopped running as he tried to catch his breath.

"Lucy, something gold, I think?" I looked at him even more dismayed.

But then it hit: „Bronze?"

„Yes." He pointed his finger at my face.

„How does Mel know Lucy Bronze?" I murmured to myself more than to Robbie.

"I don't know, but she did something, because Mel isn't here." I didn't reply to him. My mind began racing. Where would she be?

„Hello? Jessica we need to find her." I looked up at him.

"No shit, you idiot." I slapped him across the forehead.

„I guess we can try toilets." Robbie said.

Then it hit me. Every time Mel was upset, she locked herself in a girls bathroom, and because of her injury, she couldn't walk very far.

We ran into the building, me forgetting I was still in my cleats and kit.
During our run through the school, a school cleaner yelled at me that I was leaving mud behind me, but I didn't stop.

We stopped in front of the school toilets.

„Robbie you know you can't go to GIRLS bathrooms." I pointed the obvious, but Robbie shook his head and run into the bathroom.

„Idiot." I sighed and followed him in.

=================================

When we got inside, we heard crying and I knew it was Mel. My poor girl.

Robbie tried to open the door: „Mel open the door."

We heard a sniff, and then the sound of a lock unlocking. I knocked Robbie out of the way so I could hug Mel. She cried on my shoulder and her whole body shook.

„Mel, you need to take a deep breath for me. In and out." She held onto me as if I were dead. I didn't mind. As long as she calms down.

Robbie stood between the door frame and stared at us.

„I'm sorry." Mel said. First I thought she was apologizing for the crying, but then she continued to talk.

"I lied to you, I didn't fall in therapy." I was still confused.

„Then what happened to your cheek?" I sat next to her as she put her head against the wall.

MEL POV:

Honestly, I don't know why I wanted to tell JJ the truth. But it felt right in that moment. I looked to my right at Robbie.

„Could you go outside for a second please?" He nod his head and with a sad expression walked out.

JJ looked at me: „Your dad hit you didn't he?" In that moment I broke down again. Despite not telling her much about my father, she always found a way to find out about everything. After my mom left us JJ was someone who helped me through it. JJ pulled me into her embrace and hugged me tightly. She whispered soft things into my ear.

I hugged her back just as tightly. I didn't break down just because he hit me once, but also all the times he wasn't there, and for that reason because I mostly cared for myself alone. I cried because of my injury and because I couldn't play the sport I loved so much.

All of the events that happened over the past week and which I tried to hide. Yet my glass always overflows, and this was the moment when it did.

JJ pulled me away and wiped the tears from my eyes helping me up. She slowly guided me to the sink where I washed my face.

„JJ, are you still in your kit?" I asked after realizing that she wasn't in her regular clothes.

„Well, I needed to find you. Robbie was useless." As she said that Robbie from outside the door yelled back: „HEY, NOT TRUE. I ran for the first time in my life."

I just laughed at my friend and Robbie. They never liked each other much.

„Okay Mel, let's get you to class." JJ said.

I nodded and we made our way to my English class. When we all stepped inside, all eyes were on us.

The teacher then said: „Well, isn't that our two footballers and smoking pot?"

„We arrived late because my leg hurt so they took me to the school nurse for pain killers." I took the blame for my tardiness because well, it was my fault.

The teacher took it and we sat down. In order to keep track of what she was saying, I tried to make notes about Shakespeare's sonnets as she continued to speak. However, I found it difficult to think after my panic attack, so I just drew a picture of a girl in my notebook in order to give myself some time to calm down.

=================================

After the class ended we all took our things and headed out. And since this was our last class all the kids headed home, and some to after school activities.

I said bye to JJ who headed to the second training of the day, and to Robbie who left to smoke weed somewhere.

I stood in front of the school waiting for my father to come. It was so stupid of me to think that his promise might still hold up after he broke it in the morning.

Well guess what....

He didn't come. So I began walking home with crutches.

However, I did not make it home.

I made it to the hotel, where the lionesses were still staying. I didn't really know what I was doing there, but I needed to apologize to Lucy. So I took a deep breath and walked inside.
