"Damn, did you buy a new closet to go with that?"
"Did you get a face lift?"
"Bitch."
"Asshole."
Jesse snorted as she climbed into the Jeep next to her brother after having tossed her bags into the backseat except for one small unnamed bag with a rectangular shaped object. With a smile she held onto that bag with a newfound hope the whole way home. Unsurprisingly, a giddiness filled her body as she thought about her day and what was in store for the next few weeks. She felt lighter than ever, almost unstoppable, bullet proof even...
She felt damn good.
And that feeling continued throughout her time in Cobra Kai and at home. It was strengthened by smiles across hallways, friendly shoulder taps in classes, and late night discord chats hidden by some kind of VPN and software that the boys had installed on her laptop, customizing everything so that she could talk to them without her dad knowing.
To her brother and father she seemed the quiet angsty teenager that hid away in her bedroom, but in reality it was her time to talk to her friends. Which was all Jesse could think about while sitting with Kyler one evening after school.
"Dance is in a week."
"I'm impressed you know something." Jesse sneered to her brother, easing an eyebrow from her spot occupying her brother's bed. She flicked a page of her manga over and went back to reading. "Your point?"
"You goin'?" Kyler asked almost hesitantly from his computer chair, barely glancing at the book in his sister's hand.
Jesse paused, slowly turning the page. "...maybe." She didn't really want to go, there was no point. Everyone she wanted to see she couldn't be with and the reminder of her life would hang over her... she didn't want that.
"Come on, you got that nice dress!" Kyler complained, his hand flailing in exaggeration. "Shit is designer n' you don't wanna wear it?"
Jesse rolled her eyes. "There's only one person that I'd want to go with and I'm banned from seeing him." Her response was drier than sand and felt like sandpaper against his ears.
"...Bug." Kyler sighed out quietly shaking his head, but Jesse only made a show of turning off her implants and aggressively turned the page once again. If her dad came in, so be it, but the man wasn't even home that night.
He never really was.

School seemed... brighter.
As Jesse sat at the lunch table with the other Students of Cobra Kai -her brother loudly laughing beside her - she made eye contact with Demetri from across the lunch room. Swallowing a lump that few in her throat, she couldn't help the crooked smile that grew on her face and the snort that left her lips when he accidentally bumped into a trash can, sending it flying away. She sounded like a dying pig.
And, well, she missed her best friend.
"Hey, bestie." Jessica hollered out to Eli Moskowitz as he tried to make himself disappear. In a flash, she had wrapped her arms around his one, playfully walking next to him as if she were a teen hopelessly devoted to her boyfriend, and she enjoyed the way his muscles stiffened with anticipation. "Whatcha doin?"
"G-g-going h-h-home-"
"Are you walking?" She inquired gleefully and Eli's stutter sent into full throttle as he tried to explain himself to the girl while walking a straight line, but it wasn't so straight.
