Tilling my own grave to keep me level
Jam another dragon down the hole
Digging to the rhythm and the echo of a solitary siren
One that pushes me along and leaves me so

Desperate and ravenous
I'm so weak and powerless
Over you

Someone feed the monkey while I
Dig in search of China
White as Dracula as I approach the bottom

Desperate and ravenous
I'm so weak and powerless
Over you

Little angel go away
Come again some other day
The devil has my ear today
I'll never hear a word you say
He promised I would find a little solace
And some piece of mind
Whatever just as long as I don't feel so

Desperate and ravenous
I'm so weak and powerless
Desperate and ravenous
I'm so weak and powerless
Over you

Over you

-Weak and Powerless-A Perfect Circle-2003-

-JASON-

When Nick and I got back from securing the temple, I couldn't fucking believe that AJ had taken off like that! When she feels like she's messed up, she will do anything to make it right, even at her own expense. I fucking lost it when I saw her alone with the enemy, and even more so when she defended him. Anger, relief, and anxiety left me a fucking mess if we're being honest. Twice now, I'd thought I'd lost her, three if we count the bombing.

"What do you think, Nicky?" I asked him quietly.

"We need as much help as we can get," Nick replies. "And you trust AJ. If she vouched for him, then so do I...not all of them are our enemies. What happened back there? She almost passed out."

"When the bombs hit, she landed head first, remember?" I remind him.

"Yeah, man, I remember," he murmured as we staked out the tunnels.

"I don't know the full extent of her head injury, but she still gets real bad headaches, especially when stressed out," I explain.

"I'd have thought that they would have discharged her," Nick observed.

"She can keep her cool more often than not," I comment. "but they must have decided that she can still serve."

"Is that why you didn't shoot Salim on sight?" Nick asks.

"Partly," I admit.

"Partly, huh? You know you're a goner, right?" Nick chuckles.

"Meaning?" I asked, being dense on purpose.

"You know good and damn well what I mean, Jase," he snorts.

"I don't know what you're talking about," I insist. "I don't know what you're talking about at all!"

"Nah, I know you too good," Nick tells me. "When you lie, you always say the same thing twice. First one to see how it floats, second one to nail it down."

"Son of a bitch," I swore.

"You're so damn stubborn," Nicky laughs. "But I think you've met your match."
