A centaur girl, Erina, born on 17 May 1981, is rather proficient at magic. She became the divination professor instead of Firenze, and in the negotiations demanded free and complete access to the Hogwarts Library, including the restricted section. Dumbledore said all professors have such rights and hired her, despite her only being 14 years old at the time.

She is actually half-centaur, half-unicorn, so she had a single horn on her head and due to her age had silver fur, and hair, with golden hooves, and golden irises. Because of her unicorn blood, she's exceptionally fast and her blood, hair and horn have powerful magical properties.

The centaurs were upset with her decision, but unlike with Firenze, they didn't attack her because she was still a child. In fact, even if she were an adult they wouldn't attack her, because of her unicorn heritage and consequent purity. They did still banish her, however.

Half-centaur, half-unicorns age at about the same rate as humans, instead of the quick pace of unicorns, so their fur and hair are gold until their 5th birthday when they turn silver until their 17th birthday, when they mature and their fur and hair turn white. Their horn grows in at around 10 years old.

Her father was the unicorn while her mother was the centaur. Her father was killed by Quirrell, and she came across his body together with Firenze, her mother's younger brother, where she first met Harry Potter. She had just started growing her horn about a week earlier.

She then met Harry again, with Ron, when he followed the spiders, and advised against it. Then she met him once more, with Hermione, helping them when Remus, in his werewolf form, attacked them. She met him again right after Crouch showed up and he returned to a stunned Viktor Krum. She was healing him.

She is talented in Archery, Astronomy, Divination and, especially, Healing Magic. Despite her being good at divination, she doesn't actually like it, or doing it, rather preferring to go with the flow. She also learned more about healing magic and potions from Madam Pomfrey. As a part unicorn, she could intrinsically sense someone's nature.

During her reading lessons in the library, she comes to realise that she quite likes transfiguration and is very talented at it, and because she doesn't like divination, she decided that at the first opportunity she had she would apply to become a transfiguration professor, which she did when Professor McGonagall became headmistress. She got the post.
