You were all thrown into an empty room, bodies crashing to the floor.
The guards spat words at you all before leaving the room, slamming the door behind them. You immediately scramble to your feet, trying the handle. It was locked.
"Shit!" You pace with your hands on your head, focusing on your breathing. This really wasn't going to plan.
"What just happened?" Robin asked, face frozen in fear, "What just happened?"
"I think we were kidnapped by Russians." Steve groans, standing up while rubbing the back of his neck.
"We need to get out of here." You kept pacing, head down and mostly talking to yourself.
"No... I thought we'd just stay, you know, check out the scenery." Steve mumbled and you turned to him, scoffing.
"I do not have time for your sarcasm right now." You say and he raises his brow, hands on hips.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Did that hurt your feelings?"
You stay silent, staring back. Robin clears her throat.
"Uh, I'm sensing some tension that usually I'd be all over but we are in a secret Russian base with no way out and I'm pretty sure they're gonna start torturing us for information." She rambled.
You groan, walking over to a wall and sliding down it, head in hands.
"I need to get back to the kids." You say a little pathetically and Steve can't resist curiosity.
"Why?" He asks and you shake your head still in your hands.
"The Mind Flayer's back and it's got Billy."
Steve's breath hitches and Robin frowns. "A mind what?"
"It's- it's bad. All of it is bad." Steve replies and Robin lets out a sigh of frustration.
"You keep saying that but I still have no idea what's-"
"Because youre not meant to!" You yell out, looking up at Robins startled face, "Sorry. I'm sorry, I-"
You sigh, shuffling over to her.
"Look, Hawkins is a pretty shit place but believe me when I say, it's a whole lot worse than you think it is." You squeeze your eyes shut before opening them back up, "And... and I don't want to drag you into that."
"But I want to know." She nods and you pinch your nose.
"I- I can't." You shake your head, standing up and moving away.
"Why not? Do you think keeping secrets is a good thing?!"
"Yes!"
"Why?"
"Because it keeps people alive!"
A silence fell across the room.
Robin glanced between you and Steve, face falling. "It's worse than bad, isn't it?"
"Pretty much." Steve nods solemnly.
"I just don't want to see another person get hurt." You murmur, staring at the door.
Any moment now, they were going to do exactly as Robin had said. Guards would burst in and drag each of you out for interrogation. Most likely torture. You were going to get hurt. Your friends were going to get hurt.
How was someone meant to prepare for that?
"You need to stop blaming yourself." Steve suddenly said and you turned to him in surprise. "You need to stop pushing people away."
