✩ Letters to the Dead ✩
To the boy who first showed me what it felt like to fall in love,
I hope you find someone who can give you the life we
Never could have made.
To the girl who believed in Peter Pan and a thousand Neverlands,
I hope you find someone who can give you the magic we
Embodied for a small infinity.
To the boy who taught me that not everyone we love will love us back,
I hope you find someone who can give you the desire to refuse
The shattered heart challenge.
To the girl who I thought would fill the role that I'd always needed,
I still hope you find your way back to me after everything,
At the end of all things.
I think we all write letters to the dead.
To the boys who broke our hearts,
To the girls we thought we'd know forever,
To the boys who showed us why letting go is so important,
To the little girl we always dreamed would grow up and become someone great.
To the friends we loved and lost along the way,
To the people who were supposed to stay all along,
To the internet mutual who stays up late so we won't be alone,
To the wild and wandering souls who teach us how to adore the stars,
To the gentle hand that steadies our face when the world falls away,
To the steady, beating heart that reminds us what peace – what calm – feels like.
We all, in our own little way, write laments to the lost—
To the ancient and immortal ghosts of our memories.
