"Uhh..." I hesitated.

"Ryan? Where were you?"

"Spencer's house. We were just watching movies, and I ended up passing out," I replied without hesitating this time.

"Oh," she replied. "Why didn't you call?"

"I fell asleep before I could even get the chance, I'm sorry." I said trying to move past her.

"You-" she hesitated. "You didn't see Jalen did you?" I gave her a look as if she said the stupidest thing in the world. "I'm sorry hun. I'm just worried."

"If you care that much you will stop bringing him up." I trotted up the steps, slamming the door to my room. Why did they have to bring him up like that? Even though it has been a year the subject was something I don't think I'll ever feel comfotable talking about. I told Niall because he needed answers because after all, he is my teacher.

-NIALL'S POV-

"So Niall finally got himself a girlfriend," Liam said patting my back. "Well that's good. How old is she? Is she hot?"

"Liam please," I said droning my coffee. "She's cute. Quite beautiful. She's younger but not too much younger." The last part almost sounded like it was forced. "No you can't meet her. Not yet at least."

"Oh taking the protective stage. I like it," he winked.

"I kind of have to be," I replied. Liam cocked and eyebrow. "She has a pretty heart breaking back story. I would rather not share it for it's not mine to share."

"Well she's found the best thing for her then. I know you will treat her good. And I hope she knows that too." I smiled, looking at my brown oxfords.

"I hope she does too."

"What's her name?" He asked.

"Ryan," I replied.

"Hmm," he replied. "Cute. I would love to meet her."

"Soon enough," I replied. We walked into the school, going into our classrooms. He took off down the science wing of the building while I made my way into the English wing. I entered my class, settting my things down, going through papers. Ryan's file was sitting on my desk. Her smiling face. It was beautiful. She was beautiful.

The slam of a door brought me back to my senses. Ryan stood there, making sure no teachers were coming. Once she was clear, she let out a grunt, walking towards my desk. "Uhh Ryan it's kind of early. Why are you here?"

"I- uh-" she stuttered. She wanted to ask me something but couldn't put it into words. "I told my friends."

"What?" I asked getting to my feet. "Ryan why didn't you talk to me about it?"

"I need someone to back me up on this Niall! If I want to keep seeing you I'm going to need se back up!" She replied harshly. "I want to keep seeing you."

"What if they tell Ryan?" I asked getting worried. "I could lose my job. Go to jail. Anything!" I was raging with anger. I wanted to slam my fists against the desk or throw the books out the window but for some reason, her features soothed me.

"You won't," I replied. "I trust these girls with my life Niall. They won't tell. I promise. And they respect it. We've known each other for a month now. I think they understand."

"What if they don't?" I asked, calming a bit.

"But they do," she replied. Her hand took hold of mine, swinging up a bit. "Please don't be mad."

"I'm not," I replied. The bell rang, signaling class was starting. "Come to my place later. Dinner and a movie?" I winked at her before she sat in her seat. Kids piled in, not having a clue what was going on. No one did. But her and her friends. And some how I was okay with that.

-RYAN'S POV-

"What were you talking about with Mr.Horan this morning?" Harry asked as we sat down at one of the lunch tables.

"Wanted me to umm..." C'mon Ryan! You're making things look suspicious. "He works for my dad and all so he wanted to know if he was doing okay. But I went in to return a book." Nice save.

"Oh," he replied. "Well I was wandering if you wanted to so something tonight? Go to the arcade? Play ski ball. Shoot hoops."

"You know what," I started. I was supposed to go over to Nialls. But I think a good friend is what I need. "I'd love too."

"Great!" He smiled big. After all.

I can't make anything look suspicious. Just as I was about to walk with Harry to his car, I got a text.

From Niall:

Can you come over now? I'm boredddd....

To Niall:

Didn't know an English teacher used text like that.. Be over in a min ;)

"I have to do something before we go tonight. My mom just texted. Can you pick me up at eight?" He nodded as I ran for Nialls. Praying Harry won't follow. I look back a couple times to see he hasn't and kept running. Once I made it to Nialls, I knocked on the door, panting like crazy. I tried to hide it when he opened the door.

"You okay?" He smiled, opening the door for me to come in. I nodded, crashing to the couch, bouncing off, hitting the floor. "God Ryan! Are you okay?"

"I like the floor," I said panting against it. He laughed, helping me back to the couch.

"Why did you run here?"

"I only have two hours before I leave to go the the arcade with Harry." Niall stiffened. "I have to make things less suspicious Niall. Don't worry." He wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me into his chest.

"Good," he replied. He kissed my temple while I laced my fingers with his. "Stay here tonight? Since there's no school tomorrow?"

"Sure," I replied. "Niall?"

"Hmm."

"Why do you care so much about Jalen?" He stiffened but eased as I rubbed his knuckles with my thumb.

"Some other time," he replied.

"Why not now?" I asked, getting to my feet. "I have time."

"But I don't," he replied. "Look. I'll tell you when I'm ready okay?"

"Whatever," I replied. "I'll see you tonight."

"Ryan wait," he said stopping me from opening the door.

"Niall move."

"Ryan," he said pressing his body to mine. His forehead touched mine, looking at me in the eyes. "I just want to keep you safe. Can you trust me with that?"

"I'll trust you once I know the truth about you Niall," I replied. "You're hiding something."

"Well so are you Ryan!" He yelled back. This made me flinch.

"Maybe because I wanted time to FORGET being hurt! And you just keep bringing it back up!" I pushed him away, making my way down the hall way. I could hear his footsteps pound behind me.

"Ryan," he said forcefully.

"Leave me-" I was cut off by him pulling me into a kiss. He wrapped his arms around my waist, cupping my face with his hand. He pulled away, pulling me into a hug.

"Ryan I'm sorry," he said. I didn't reply. The way his voice was soft with care made me upset. How he can go from god damn scary to cute fully bunny. It's confusing. "I'll see you tonight okay?" I nodded, kissing him once more.

"Tonight."
