Twenty-one butterflies

~The next morning~

~Y/N POV~

When we woke up the next morning, Kuina was still asleep, laying on the wooden table of the living room. Chishiya had probably predicted that we would wake up before her, or else he wouldn't have shared a bed with me. Still, it felt nice to emerge by his side ; a little habit that we seem to keep even outside of The Beach.
But the sweet memory of this morning isn't enough to hide the bitter of our situation. I stand at Shibuya crossing, between Chishiya and Kuina, while eyeing the big text displayed on a building. 'Next Stage'. Sure, I know. But when are the games actually going to start ? We've been watching that screen for a while now, waiting for the thread that's holding those death threats to finally break. It won't take too long now, will it ?
Arisu and Usagi are also standing by our side. Our eyes wander on the buildings around, searching for a sign, a game perhaps ? Sometimes, a shadow would crawl on a tenement far away, following the blimp it belonged to. Tones of them seem to float everywhere around Tokyo ; clear sign that's something must be preparing. I swallowed everytime it would approach us, but none of them has ever been too close.
Finally, Arisu decides to break the thick silence.

Arisu : None of the games have started yet.

I nod silently, still eyeing the text announcing the next stage. Usagi answers him with her usual light voice.

Usagi : Maybe we still have some time ?

I slowly glance towards her. Maybe she's right. The next stage is supposed to start at noon, but we ironically have no way to know what time it is. The stage could begin in a couple seconds, minutes, or hours...

Chishiya : Or maybe they forgot to push the big red start button...

With a small sigh, I glare towards him. Chishiya seems to take the situation so lightly that it stresses me even more. To my look, he simply answers with a shrug, as if quizzing me about why am I annoyed. But our gaze is quickly interrupted by the voice of Kuina.

Kuina : They didn't even tell us the rules for this one.

I shrug, glancing towards the shadow of a blimp crawling in a distant street.

Y/N : Maybe they'll give them when the stage starts ?

Kuina acquiesces with a headbutt. There are a few seconds more of silence, until a distant rumbling starts to echoe somewhere far away. Another blimp maybe ? But I quickly realize it's not that when the noise starts to come closer, and closer, and closer... No one seems to react around me, and I'm starting to wonder if I'm not going insane. Kuina suddenly quizzes.

Kuina : What is it ?

Thanks to her words, I am now sure that I'm still pretty sane. Sadly, on the other hand, her question only intensifies the worry of a possible danger approaching us. Usagi walks past Kuina, her eyes frantically running from the left to the right. She then whispers.

Usagi : I hear something.

The noise is getting even closer, and its cause won't take long to appear in front of us. Everyone glances in the same direction, waiting, mute. I walk closer to Chishiya, placing myself by his side yet still slighlty behind him. He seems relaxed, his hands stuffed in his pockets as he stares silently at the corner of the crossing. The rumbling is coming from this way. It's getting louder, closer. So close that now, I'm starting to distinguish the sound of cars instead of a confusing rumbling. I frown, perplex, when a light blow of wind suddenly washes all over my face. A lock of my hair gets carried by the breeze and ends up tickling my face. I can't help but close an eye, bothered by its insistent flapping on my cheek. If those cars are enough to create a windblow on the road, then they must be a lot. I swallow to that thought.
Finally, the cars appear in our sight, and just as I thought, they are a lot. I curiously glance towards the people inside them, and Kuina gasps, almost shocked. She then mutters.
