ElizaIt was some time in the middle of the night when I heard it—footsteps. I shot up straight from bed, not allowing myself to panic even slightly. Waleed and I hadn't talked today because he texted me and told me he was busy today. It couldn't be him anyway, because he was supposed to come in two days.
I looked around the room to grab something for defense- maybe perfume would work if I sprayed it in the intruder's eyes. As the footsteps inched closer and grew louder, I tugged at my shirt, realizing too late that I was in another one of Waleed's shirts and wasn't wearing any bottoms.
Oh, well. I'd just spray the person before they could see me.
The door to the room creaked open slowly and I frowned at whoever this person was. But as the door opened fully and light from outside flooded into the dark room, I recognized the person immediately.
"Waleed!" I squealed and ran up to him, not caring about anything as I threw my arms around his neck and hugged him, hard enough for him to stumble back and hit the door, causing it to close behind him.
"For someone who said that they didn't miss me, you sure are happy to see me." He laughed as he wrapped his arms around me, his jacket and the perfume in my hand falling onto the ground over the rug.
I tilted my head and looked at him, not hiding the large happy grin on my face. "What are you doing here? You weren't supposed to be back yet."
"Surprise? I wrapped up things quicker today so I could get back sooner." His thumb rubbed over my lips, the other hand still holding my back. "And it was definitely worth it."
I put my head back on his shoulder and hummed. "I liked the surprise but I think we could've done without that whole acting. I thought it was a robber or something."
He raised an eyebrow when I peeked up at him. "You thought it was a robber and your defence was a perfume?"
"Hey! Those work wonders, okay. It's not a robber though, is it? Just my husband."
"Just your husband? I think a robber would've been better then." He rubbed my back and I yelped a little when he lifted me off the ground, wrapped my legs around his waist as he walked us to the bed and sat down on the edge with me in his lap.
I put my finger on my chin, pretending to think. "Hmm... Come to think of it, you are a robber?"
His eyebrows scrunched in that way of his. God, I missed him so much. "How? What did I steal?"
"My heart."
He threw his back and laughed, squeezing my waist. "And you say that I'm corny."
I grinned and leaned forward to rub my nose against his. His laugh faded until he was only smiling softly at me. "We can switch the roles for a bit."
He hummed and I gasped quietly when his head ducked into my neck, his rough stubble of a few days tickling my skin as he dropped a kiss there. "You're wearing another one of my shirts." He whispered, almost hoarsely.
I crossed my arms over his back, holding him as close to me as possible. "They were feeling lonely without you here so I thought to keep them company."
