We left the Ball around 11, although it ended around 11:30. We decided it'd be more fun to hang out at my place or ride around in his truck. As we were saying goodbye to our friends, we couldn't find Emmy. I thought that was strange so peeked around to make sure my best friend was safe.
Right outside the locker rooms I found her making out with the one and only Veronica Torres.
I turned right back around and dragged Felix to his truck.
"What is it? What happened? Are yo-" I held a finger to his lips, silencing him, and started laughing.
"Emmy was making out with Veronica," I breathed before laughing again.
It took Felix a second to register what I said, but when he did he doubled over, laughing with me.
We seemed to be laughing a lot these days.
Time flew by at school with so many events happening, and soon enough, it was Valentine's Day. Felix and I hadn't discussed what we were going to do for it, we were too busy with schoolwork and preparations for another school dance we signed up to help with.
When the day finally rolled around, I was freaking out. I hadn't gotten anything for him, and it was seven am, right before I got to meet up with him in the library. I'd usually settle with communicating with him, like I should do, but I felt so... guilty. So what did I do?
Hurriedly made an origami ring. It was sloppy, crumpled, ugly and poorly made. So I sighed and threw it away. I wasn't going to force a pathetic looking piece of paper onto him! I dropped my head onto the table I was sitting at and groaned.
Stupid Valentine's Day.
I heard a backpack clunk down on the ground next to me, and I sadly looked over to see Felix brightly smiling behind a bouquet of pink tulips. That was it.
I started bawling my eyes out, causing Felix's smile to drop, and his expression became one of worry. He set the bouquet down and ran over to me, crouching down and resting a hand on my shoulder.
"What's wrong babe?"
I shook my head and wiped tears out my eyes, getting up. "I-I-"
"Aww, it's ok, let's go somewhere more private," he said, picking up our backpacks and the bouquet. He led me to a band practice room and pulled me into his chest. I inhaled deeply, calming down.
"I-I'm sorry." I said when I could finally talk. He looked at me in confusion, tilting his head to the side. "Why, exactly?"
"I didn't get you anything for Valentine's. I mean, I tried to make a stupid paper ring but-" I sighed. "Seeing the flowers made me so happy and now I feel really bad for not getting you anything."
He chuckled and shook his head. "I don't need anything, Sam. I'm happiest being around you." I shook my own head, opening my mouth to protest. "Sam. Don't." He shoved the bouquet in my hands and kissed me long and hard. "Now that," he paused, wiping a thumb across his lips, "was all I needed for Valentine's Day."
I stood there, mouth still open, blushing profusely.
He took one look at my expression and froze, putting his hands up. "Wait, no, I mean, I love kissing you but, wait, hold on, I- being around you is enough, I swear, I don't need to be kissed or something to be satisfied in our relationsh-"
"Felixxx," I drawled in a high pitched voice, raising my eyebrows. "I didn't know you had that in you..." I smirked, pecking him on the lips.
He let out a sigh in relief, combing a hand through his hair. "Happy Valentine's, Sam."
I pulled a tulip out and gave it to him. "Happy Valentine's, Felix."
I shoved Felix and told him to knock it off.
"Whyyyy?" he whined, giving me puppy-dog eyes.
"Because it's trash!"
He had gone and pulled the ring I had made out of the trash bin and fixed it up so it would fit his finger. Now he was showing it off to everyone and admiring it. It was cute, but simultaneously embarrassing.
"If you stop showing it off to everyone within the perimeter, I'll leave you alone about it." I said, letting out a huff.
His face broke out into a grin. "Deal."
Today, we had the whole lunch table to ourselves. Tyler was out sick and Veronica and Emmy were on a date or something outside.
"So have you had any dog problems lately?" I said quietly, pulling out a bag of grapes to devour.
To my surprise, he nodded, swallowing some food before explaining. "I've been having a difficult time transforming back to a human for the past week."
I hummed and scrunched my eyebrows together in thought. "I wonder why..."
He shrugged, taking another bite of his sandwich. "It's probably nothing."
The flowers were in a glass vase with plenty of water on my desk. I'd find myself glancing over to them and blushing before they wilted and I had to throw them out. I pressed one so I could keep it as a memory.
Felix had invited me to the Valentine's Dance we had helped prepare, and this time we stayed on the sidelines and watched people dance. We did slow dance to a few songs, but it mainly led to our feet being stepped on. So we talked and talked. And that's the best dance I've been to, honestly.
The night after the dance, I got to go to Felix's place.
It was...so empty. I hid my sorrow behind a smile for Felix, but even his mood changed when we walked in. I mean, my sister and I weren't messy, but my house at least displayed that people lived there. His was bare. One picture was on the mantle of his humongous fireplace, perfectly symmetrical. It was a picture of a woman resembling Felix, an emotionless practiced smile stretching across her face. I shuddered.
"No offense but I can see why you don't want to stay here much." I said, following him upstairs.
"Yeah." he muttered grimly, pushing a door open to what I assumed to be his bedroom. The bedsheets were crumpled, papers spread across a desk facing a massive window, a scuff mark could be seen on the wall near a shelf sagging underneath the weight of video game supplies. I felt my shoulders relax. Now this is what a bedroom should look like. Well, it could be neater, but I was glad to see a sign of life.
"So... whatcha think?" Felix mused as he plopped onto his bed.
I licked my lips and moseyed over to him, sliding my finger down his chest. "I think... many good memories could be made here," I paused, sliding my finger back up to his chin and slowly tilting it up until his erotic green eyes connected with mine, "wouldn't you agree, Felix?"
He tilted his head, giving me a sly grin. "I would, Samuel."
Our lips crashed together and that was that.
