"And then Veronica was like, 'Well I hate you too!' Can you believe her?" Emmy, my best friend, complained.
I snorted and went back to typing up my English essay.
Tyler, my other best friend, said, "I'm sure if y'all got to know each other better, you have a lot in common."
Emmy gasped, a hand going to her chest in mock offense. "How could you say that!" she exclaimed.
"Sam, back me up here. She's been at Veronica all week and we are the ones who have to hear about it."
I scoffed, giving him a deadpan look. "I choose no sides, and I am not getting into this feud."
Emmy and Tyler groan, in desperate need of backup I assume.
"If you hate her so much, why don't you make a powerpoint about it and explain why we need to hate her too?"
Emmy brightens, excited with the idea of spending more time complaining about her enemy.
"You never know, maybe you'll turn enemies to lovers," Tyler smirks.
She smacks him, grumbling and opening her computer.
I hear her click away furiously, bent on making this presentation. I'm pretty sure she also had an essay to do like me, but this now took up all her attention. If only she could write every essay on Veronica, then I wouldn't have to nag her about them.
Tyler had other plans, and threw on his backpack and with a quick wave, left the library we were studying in.
The library was my favorite part of the school. My second favorite was the courtyard, but that was off limits in the mornings.
I leaned back in my seat, eyebrows furrowed in concentration as I tried to figure out what else to put in this essay.
Leaning back, I now had a certain someone in my vision. Kyle. My crush. He was the second tallest jock in our school, although his tallness had nothing to do with my liking him. It was his smile. Or maybe his eyes. Or maybe his football skills. Or maybe... him. I'd liked him since freshman year, and I was a junior now.
Emmy must've noticed my eyes glued on him because when I looked back over to her and my essay, she was wearing a smug expression.
"Still got the hots for Mr. Like-a-Lots?" she teased. That was our coverup name for him because most of the school was also in love with him. There was only one other guy that could compete with his looks. 'The Tiger'.
I snapped out of my love daze, frowning at her.
"N-Nooo," I stammered, a blush covering my cheeks. I was terrible at lying. Or convincing people in general. "Anyway, why are you still wearing shorts in this weather?"
She glanced down at her outfit, shorts and a short-sleeved shirt she most likely found in the mens' section. She loved comfort. And didn't care what people thought.
She laced a hand through her wild, short hair, giving me a grin.
"Cause I can."
In our passing period, Emmy and I found each other and walked to our next classes, Band for her, Photography for me. They were close to each other, so we were happy to walk together to class. It was a time to catch up and see our crushes. Kyle had a theater class, which was right by the photography room, so I was happy. Emmy's crush, Skylar, had photography with me so she was very happy to walk me to class.
"Hey, where do you think 'Tiger' disappeared to?" Emmy questioned as we squirmed our way through the crowd of highschoolers.
I frowned, an anxious feeling in my gut. "I'm not sure, honestly. It's such a big rumor starter though. Everyone really has their own opinion about what happened to him."
