**********

I have twenty-nine days left to live. You would think that I would be more sad about this, but to be honest I am not. I don't feel, I just do. Moriens has ruined civilization, and has ruined All I want now, is too get my parents back.

The more I think about it the more eager I am, tp betray this group. This rag tag group of misfits may think they have it all, but they don't. They will just die eventually.

I walk around this new compound aimlessly, looking for someone to talk too. I wish I had my friends, or my parents too acompany me. I make a right aroun a corner and come across a narrow hallway with high metal beams, and dim lights that filicker softly attached to the cieling. The room is empty, giving me an eery feeling in my stomach. I march down the hallway checking behind me to make sure I am not being followed.

I don't know why I am doing it, it seems kind of foolish. This is a safe haven not some free-for-all war zone. I blame the training instincts Dr. Sinestra branded in my head. I remember the day vividly, he strapped me into a chair and he injected me with a needle, which was supposed to boost my logical instincts when it comes to survival. I remember all the pain and struggle I went through. But whenever I pleaded for the Doctor to stop, he just said "Now, now, Layton. Settle down. I have big dreams for you." I never really understood what he meant by that.

I walk along the empty hallway and gaze out the musty windows that line the right side of the narrow hallway. Its raining heavily outside. Thunder and Lightning clash as if they are having a fight. It is really dark outside, I would say it is around two o'clock. I can hear the distant pitter patter of the rain colliding with the aged glass.

I wipe my tangled mess I call hair away from my eyes so i can see more clear. Ever since this end-of-the-world-catastrophe I haven't gotten the chance to cut my hair... I finally reach the end of the hallway still, searching for someone to talk to.

I make a left this time around the corner, and come across this great room with people busily bustling around. Some are holding files and papers, and others walk around with their hands free. I try and talk to any of them, but they just shrug me off and keep walking.

I pace to the center of the room and turn in a full three hundred and sixty degree circle. I notice nothing out of the ordinary until I see this giant, one and only, filling cabinet. It is the only one in the room and it stands out. It seems almost out of place. I walk up to it, and here I faint noise... I just can't place my finger on what it was though...

I run up to it, and press my ear against it. I hear a faint voice of somone yelling and screaming at the top of their lungs. I wonder who the person is, and why they are in their. Did they get trapped?  I have no clue, but I am not going to just stand around and not do anything about it, I am going to get the bottom of this and get inside this hide away one way or another.

I know just the person to help me with this. The person with the right Elemental ability. Not Asher, definately not Joyce. I need someone that can melt the metal.

I need to find Phoenix.

**********

"Hey Asher, have you seen Phoenix? I need to ask her something important." I ask with an urgent tone in my voice. He has a surprised look of his pale face.

"Oh... Nix? She is just training with Sam! You go down that hallway and she should be there." Asher says cheerily.

"Okay, thanks."

"No problem Layton," he says "Have you seen Joyce around?"

"Uh... No... Why do you ask?" I reply.

"Because I wanted to thank her for what she did for us last night. I thought it was nice, don't you agree?" he answers back.

"Yeah, she is a keeper..." I say sarcastically. Thankfully, he didn't understand my sarcasm, most people don't.

I wave bye to Asher and then jog lightly down the hall that Asher directed me too. I reach this tall steel door and open is quickly. Phoenix has two floating fire balls glowing in each hand, she looks furious.

"Phoenix, I need you for something. Please come with me." I say. She snaps back to reality and the girl standing beside her tries to interject.

"Phoe-"

"-no time for that. Please come!" I cut the girl with smooth brown hair, and shining skin off. She looks very sweet and nice.

"Okay..." Phoenix answers and she follows me ditching her friend.

She follows me back to where I met Asher and then I retrace my steps from when I was roaming the emty hallway. I jog down the hallway quickening my pace and she follows right behind. We reach the big cockpit where all the people are busily working and I lead her to the enormous filing cabinet.

"Here we are." I say.

She blinks and then says, "I have been here before. I have always wondered what was inside here."

"Well why dont we go and find out!" I say cheerily. I am about to find out who the person is behind this metal wall.

Phoenix gives me a nod. She already knows what she needs to do. She lifts her heands up and searing heat - fire - emerges from her hands and starts to melt down the metal standing in front of us.
