Elaina Argent was a 34-year-old fighter pilot and mom. All her life she dreamed of being a pilot. Her parents never accepted it but she never cared much as a kid. But when she had her son, Levi Argent, she felt she needed to achieve her dream and be the best of the best to not only provide for her son but also so she doesn't regret not becoming a pilot later on in life. Her best friend, Katrina Lotus or Kat for short, is also a 34-year-old fighter pilot, Elaina's biggest supporter and of course, Kat is Elaina's backseater and always has been. They like to think if they ever flew with someone else it was like cheating on a significant other. They loved each other like sisters. Speaking of significant others, Levi's dad isn't in the picture. When he found out that Elaina was pregnant he left her. He told her was scared his parents would resent him for having a baby out of wedlock but she knew he just didn't want a baby. They haven't had contact in 7 years, when Levi was born. Except when he sends Levi a secret birthday gift once a year. Elaina's parents aren't in the picture either. They never accepted their daughter as she was. She had a baby out of wedlock and she's a fighter pilot which according to her father, was a very "manly thing to do" and that she shouldn't do it. Her mother hated that she wasn't married yet but had a son. Don't worry, they love their grandson but they don't love their daughter as much. So Elaina has done her absolute best keeping away from them. Kat's parents have become the parents Elaina always wanted. And Levi calls them Grandma and Grandpa. This was all normal to Elaina. But things were about to change very quickly.

Elaina and Kat had been called to TOP GUN. They were a part of the best of the best fighter pilots and every pilot knew if you were called to TOP GUN after graduating… something was up. At first Elaina didn't know if she wanted to leave her son but Kat convinced her. This is what she has been talking about when she said she didn't want to regret things. So she decided to go. And take Levi with her. She would rent a house and hire someone to take care of him while she was at work. That way she wouldn't feel a burden of being so far from him.

Overall, Elaina and Kat were excited to be Elaina Argent, Callsign Rookie. And Katrina Lotus, Callsign Hurricane. You might wonder where they got their call signs from? Well, Katrina's is quite simple. Everyone remembers Hurricane Katrina and her name reminded everyone of it everyday. Elaina's Callsign is Rookie. She isn't necessarily a rookie in the air. But she made one rookie mistake and trusted Hangman to be her wingman in Naval Academy. And the name just stuck.

The day was coming up really quick, and Elaina just couldn't wait.
