Chap 11 (Shadow)

We jumped through the portal and saw that Mephiles was no where to be found.

"It appears Mephiles is no longer here." Said Omega. "I will assist in pursuing him." I nodded and we head off.

We went off to the warehouse to meet up with Rouge.

At the warehouse, Rouge was already waiting for us. "Hi." She said waving. "It seems like Eggman's machines are looking for you. What did you do this time?"

"Nothing." I answered. "Their target is probably Mephiles."

"What is Eggman up to? Who is Mephiles?" Asked Omega.

"I'm gonna ask him directly." I said, walking forward.

"Hey, wait a sec!" Said Rouge.

"I can handle this alone. You keep track of Mephiles." I said. Crimson gave me a death glare but i hardly flinched. So i dash off.

I cam still hear Rouge saying, "He finally shows up again and then he leaves without saying 'Hello'! Well it seems, his little trip hasn't changed him." That was wrong. It did change me... It changed a very small part of me...

I soon found Eggman and followed him. Then i got on board his train and explore to find the actual person.

"Wouldn't the door have been easier?" He asked me. "So, what do you want now?"

"Who is Mephiles?" I asked him. "And why are you trying to capture him?"

"If you want to know, you should go find him yourself." He replied me. "But here's a hint... It's all linked to the Soleana disaster 10 years ago."

"The Solaris Project..." I said quietly.

"Indeed." Said Eggman. "When you capture Mephiles, you must bring him to me. Then i'll tell you the truth about Solaris."

I thought about it then left... With Eggman apparently. I jumped down from the Egg-carrier while Eggman took off with a girl. Then i saw a silver hedgehog.

"Mephiles! Why are you getting in my way?" He asked me.

"I'm Shadow, Shadow the Hedgehog." I said. I nodded at Sonic, who dashed off after smiling. Then i looked back at the silver hedgehog.

After fighting for a while, we were both tired but still standing. Silver tried to  punch me one more time, but i used Chaos Control and kicked him behind his head.

He got up and faced me. "You..."

"Don't bother." I said to him. "With a Chaos Emerald's power, i control time and space. You can't break free."

"I won't give up." He said. "It all depends on me. Can't lose. Not when i'm so close!" Then he pulled out another Chaos Emerald. We used Chaos Control at the same time and ended up creating a portal through time.

"You... Induced a Chaos Control." I said to him.

"I won't let anyone get in my way." He said to me. "I'll change the past and save the world!"

Now i understand. I stood up straight and stopped fighting. "Mephiles isn't trying to help you create a better future..." I said. "He's trying to eliminate the past."

"What?" He asked me. "What are you talking about?"

I walked closer to the portal. "To discover what happened, it seems we must see what took place 10 years ago. Follow me if you want the truth." Then i leapt into the portal and he followed close behind.

We are now in a building filled with very advanced technology. Then we heard a loud explosion so we went to check it out. I went over to a man who was protecting a girl from an explosion. He was alive, hardly. The girl was out cold.

Then there was some bright light in the center of the room. It then blackened into a ball and flames started to fall from it and to a black... Liquid ash.

"That flame... It's Iblis!" Said Silver.

"And the black shadow is the original Mephiles." I told him.

"That's Mephiles?!" Silver said surprised. 'They're escaping!" The liquid ash combined and it became one big shadow.

"We'll have to split up." I said. "I'll pursue Mephiles."

"Ok. Then leave Iblis to me." Said Silver. We were about to go until the man called out to us.

"Wait!" He said. He held up the Scepter of Darkness. "Seal it with this..." I took a good look at it.

"Hurry!" Said Silver as he dashed of for Iblis.

I took the scepter and ran after Mephiles. I followed him deeper and deeper into the facility. Their technology and science are far more advanced than the outside world. I fought off some Iblis monsters and just kept pursuing Mephiles.

I used Chaos Control to trap Mephiles inside the scepter.

"...What?... Stop!" Mephiles said. "Who... Who are... You?"

"I'm Shadow. Shadow the Hedgehog." I replied him.

"Shadow..." He said. "Your face... Your form... I will remember. Your death... Certain... You... Will die!"

Then, Mephiles disappeared into the scepter and it fell to the ground. I picked it up and went to meet up with Silver outside the castle.

"Did you do it?" He asked me.

"Yes. And you?"

"... Yes. The "Flames" are properly sealed. It's done."

He then placed the girl down and i placed the scepter next to her.

"You're going to leave it behind?" Asked Silver.

"Yes, i already know what becomes of it in the future." I said. "It's time to return."

"Yes, of course." He said.

We made another portal and went through it. Then i saw Rouge standing right behind me.

"You're back sooner than i expected." She said waving. "Omega and Crimson are still in pursuit of Mephiles. So, where's the kid? What did you find 10 years ago?"

How did she even know i went back in time? She creeps me out sometimes... I looked back and walked a bit further from her. "I need you to access GUN's database." I said. "Specifically, find out what materials the Scepter of Darkness was made from."

"Sure." She said. "But you haven't answer my question yet!"

"I found the means to seal Mephiles." I replied coldly. Then i walked off with Rouge following close behind.
