I had been on my own for a long time. Exiled by my mother when I was too young and forced out into the woods where I would be forced to kill to survive. It was a lonely existence being on Pandora alone, but luckily I was able to make friends with some animals along the way and I always had my Ikran, Raza. It's been years since the last moments with my clan and time alone only makes the sounds of happiness a distant memory.
One morning not to long ago I was wandering a new part of the forest I hadn't yet explored and Raza was definitely excited to be somewhere new. She let out a happy shriek as we glided and flew through the sky as new mountains appeared. They were floating in thin air and we duck and dove between them as joyful laughs tumbled out of my mouth. This felt good, this was worth it. We kept flying before sharply diving down and feeling the wind pull my eyelids before Raza would pull up in just in time to avoid the ground. We would climb back up before she dropped us back to pandora's ground. I had been so caught up in the swirl of wind caught up in my braids I hadn't noticed an ikran far to my left. The warrior riding it was out of sight, as the only legible thing was the outline of their body. Raza quickly directed her attention to the other ikran and let out a warning shriek, as the other ikran responded and began to chase after us.
All at once we were diving through the air avoiding the other ikran, desperate to escape as we dipped below the tree line and began to swerve through the forest. My body was burning with panic as I felt the presence behind me, my face flushed and my heart raced as I attempted to find another way out but it was hopeless. I looked behind me to try and see who was so determined on catching me, but their face was blocked by the head of the angry ikran. I watched as the ikran reached it's claw out and wrapped around Raza's tail. Raza strained to get away making desperate pleas to be let go, when the rider finally commanded the ikran to let us go. Only thing was, letting us go really turned into slamming us against a tree to keep Raza from flying away.
I tumbled off her back as she cried out from the pain of hurtling into a tree, and I quickly ran around in attempt to comfort her as my hand stroked from the back of her head down to her beak. I heard the other ikran land close by and the shrieks quieted and silence began to drown the air around me. I stopped nurturing Raza and she began to recover, as I drew the bow and arrow from off my back and pointed it in the direction of the other ikran. I took silent footsteps while moving in slow circles attempting to scan the area and protect myself, the only thing I was able to decipher were the small rustles of leaves triggered by gusts of wind.
I began to panic again as my heart raced and impatience took over me, "Come out. If you're going to kill me, don't be a coward!" I yelled out. My voice sounded braver than I anticipated, stronger even but my deep breaths after gave away my sense of panic.
"Please don't hurt me," I begged out quietly into the wind, hoping eywa would hear me when I heard the snap of a branch from behind me. I shot around and drew my bow, preparing to shoot anyone who came close, Raza positioned herself behind me and let her teeth glisten.
That was when I saw him, frozen with his foot still placed over the branch he snapped. His posture low to the ground as his hand clutched a knife and his ears pointed down to the ground. His tailed whipped around widely as if trying to intimidate me as he hissed and jutted forward slightly causing me to hold my bow taught to my face and narrow my eyes at his behavior. I had an arrow aimed at his heart as I let out a hiss jutted my body forward, earning a snarl in return. We began to pace around one another in a circle, wondering who would make the first move. My breath began to speed up as a wave of anxiety overtook my body and I forced myself to remain stiff, he must've seen my body language change as he took the opportunity to strike.
He swung his arm out a hit the bow out of my hands causing me to jerk backwards in surprise, but before I could steady myself he pushed his forearm into my neck and slammed my back against a tree. His hand held a knife to my throat as his arm dug deeper into my neck causing me to squeal in pain and frustration. My body squirms under his as I tried to use my free hands to push against him but he quickly took my wrists in his free hand and trapped my legs. I was completely constrained by his body and when I finally looked up at him blush crept up onto my cheeks. His face was so close to me I could see the blue freckles that traveled around the bridge of his nose, and the way little hairs fell from his braids and framed his face. He looked magical and I began to let myself daydream about doing more than just looking at him. He narrowed his eyes in confusion and frustration and pressed his body further into me in order to draw my attention back to the matter at hand.
