Bullet's pov
Weeks passed and we still didn't have any missions, the movement was slowing down, maybe it would stop soon, maybe the enemies were gonna realize it was a bad idea.
Autumn was slowly morphing onto winter, the trees were losing their red leaves, snow taking its place. I noticed it since I would regularly take walks into the forest, observe the nature, appreciate the calming atmosphere from it. It was overall a way to destress after harsh days. The only bad part about it being the cold.
Drenching someone in water and making them cold is the preferred way to test your mental ability to stay focused on a mission, that's why we would very often get water bucket thrown at us and continue training as if nothing happened. Coupled with fatigue, sometimes I wanted to quit this world, just lay down with a warm blanket, maybe cuddling someone, platonically since my love life has always been hopeless.
We were called, not for a mission but for a teamwork exercise. All the operators participated, since it was also a sort of group cohesion training, though I could see that a lot of them were absent. I just kind of hoped I would be with someone I already knew, even though the goal of this exercise is to work with other people we wouldn't before.
Of course we got called in the middle of the shooting area in the middle of the night, because it wouldn't be fun right ? I noticed Sangy was still tired, surprisingly, but also sort of pissed of.
A man I haven't really seen before started talking about the rules :
"You are gonna be put in a team of three, one of you has a map with instructions and is gonna lead you by comms, the other two are gonna follow the instructions. The goal is to save the hostage you are given, if you get spotted by the enemies you only have two minutes left to save your hostage, otherwise your hostage is considered dead. There is no weapon given, you will have to use your fists and kicks to defend yourself."
There was a silence for a few seconds, then some chatters, the man spoke louder again, to cover the mumblings :
"The teams are already chosen ! You don't choose your partner like you're in 5th grade !"
The operators started to individually ask him in which team they were, which he didn't seem to mind. I was put in team "Hallo", probably because of the majority of German speakers since I was put with Leon and König, at least I was put with people I knew. The hostages were all over the base, from forest to inside the dorms. König joined a room inside with some other operators who got assigned to communications. We had to wait until they were there to start.
Leon and I waited with the other duos, he seemed nervous, he kept tapping his foot on the ground, his arms were crossed and he was silent. Silence is my number one most hated thing, it brings awkwardness, anxiety and much more. Since Shay's passing, Sangy became much more quiet, less joyful and more irritable, he shared to me he wanted to leave military and go back to Germany with his mother, but for some reason he never did that.
I then remembered the other man's speech, we don't have any weapons, and that's not a good thing for me. I never really learnt how to fight, I guess that if I cross path with the enemies team, I'll have to bury my own grave. I really hoped that the tough guys like Ghost or Soap weren't in the enemies team.
We had to set our own comms, I put the earpiece in my ear and the mic on my shoulder. Other teams were already gone. After a few minutes I subtly heard König's voice :
"Team Hallo, how you read me ?"
I heard Leon's voice in my earpiece saying that he heard him well, I responded by :
