I wrote this as part of the -> WA Colour Prompt Challenge on Amino. I did this for fun, and of course, I can't take credit for coming up with it. I don't have the pictures saved but I know the colours I chose were purple and blue.

"Mom, tell me the story again!"

"Which one, my little cub?"

"You know which one, Mom!"

The woman lovingly ruffled his hair and laid him on his bed.

"Alright," she conceded. "Close your eyes and listen to my little story. It all started with a boy and a girl in a land far away —"

Where enter skies of blue and clouds of white: a place of imagination where colours are king. In the verdant plains, a boy and a girl sat together, staring at the shapes in the sky.

"How about we make things more interesting?" The boy proposed. The girl looked at him curiously.

"What do you suggest?"

"Close your eyes and tell me what you see."

She did as instructed, and her mind pictured the perfect scene.

"It's cold and calm, perfectly still and chill; it's refreshing and cooling, perfectly icy and crisp."

"You're good at this," he told the girl.

"It's your turn now," she said, turning to him. "Tell me what you see."

He closed his eyes and watched the glaucous seas turn into a deepening onyx, but never reaching obsidian, staying mauve in tint.

"Thick lilac mixed with navy," he started. "With a hint of indigo where the colours darken. But on the other side, far from the ebony of cerulean shades, the colours are fuschia and a buzzing bumblebee yellow. Slowly they melt together while remaining separate from soft lilac and honey-glazed sky."

The girl applauded him. "You have a talent. Shall I try to match yours?"

"Are you challenging me?" he playfully replied. She smiled and twirled around, closing her eyes once more.

"My sight sees an arctic ceiling, soft as cotton, leaving a fleeting sensation," she said. "Azure joins the brighter lapis, melding in the center of the thick pearly white clouds. And in their shadows thrives a deep berry, contrasting their highlight's frosty hue."

The man smiled and nudged her side with his elbow. "You were holding back earlier."

She giggled and opened her bright lemon eyes; he grinned from his filled with fresh mint.

"It's always nice to have a little warmup," she replied. "Let's have one last try. The winner takes all."

"Alright," he agreed. "Ladies first."

She took his hands, and suddenly the world changed, morphed right before them. It was unrealistically beautiful. Everything she had described surrounded him; the serene atmosphere, the glacial wind, the pure air.

"This is what I missed," she told him, pointing in the distance. He saw nothing but heard a lovely sound, smooth like velvet to his ears. He saw mountains rise and fall, fins jump and sink.

"Aren't they beautiful, dancing in blue?" she said faintly. "Think you can top this?"

"Why don't we find out?" he replied, taking her hand. He ran into a cloud, pulling them into a new scene, dimmer and yet still so bright. He slid down the side of the cloud's curved apex, landing on the soft bottom by the crescent moon, glowing white with a yellow hue.

The girl hopped onto the celestial object, looking down at her partner.

"I'll give the win, only because your colours weren't so slim."

He exaggeratedly bowed, and she handed him a crown made of clouds. When his hands touched the edge, she flipped the crown away and onto her head.

"I thought I was victorious," he whined. She held back her laugh and pointed at the lake, reflecting everything above it.

"Had you mentioned the sliver of strawberry pink in the clouds or the midnight of the city, I would've given you the win."

His eyes widened in shock; she could even notice the warm red in the oscillating waves of sapphire blue. He sighed, accepting his defeat.

"You have a keen eye."

"Perhaps you should work yours a little more."

"Ha ha," he sarcastically replied, crossing his arm. The girl jumped off the moon and placed the crown on his head.

"You think you can show me more colours?"

And with that, they started an adventure–

"Discovering nature's colourful beauty."

She finished her story, and her son was fast asleep, hugging the plush Luma by his face. She tucked him in, kissed his forehead and opened his little lamp, watching the light paint golden stars on the walls. Walking to the door, she looked at her ray of sunshine, peacefully sleeping and whispered, "Goodnight, my little cub."
