Damon

Stefan and I were driving to Elijah's house to let him know about our recent occurrences.

"So Bonnie Bennett? Never knew you were into witches brother." If I didn't know any better I would say that Stefan blushed at my comment.

"She's just a friend." he said after a moment of silence.

"Yeah, but you want it to be more, do you not?" I quizzed him.

"It will have to wait til after the solstice." He said and I nodded my head in agreement. When we pulled up to Elijah's mansion I didn't bother with knocking at all, I just walked right inside, with Stefan close on my heels.

"Yes, Come in Damon." Elijah said sarcastically.

"Don't mind if I do." I replied.

"Um, Elijah we have a slight problem on our hands." Stefan spoke.

"Ah, yes. Elena told me that she went to help you in New Orleans. What happened?" he asked.

"Well, Katherine showed up and locked us in a cave. She said that someone doesn't want the curse to be broken and frankly she's more frightened of this someone than you I'm afraid." I told him.

"Well there's only one person I can think of that wouldn't the curse to be broken and that's the original witch. I can't believe she would come back to stop the curse. It's been a thousand years since it was created it."

"Elijah, you've been a bad boy." We all turned around to see where the voice came from. There was a very beautiful lady who didn't seem to be over the age of thirty. She had short blonde hair and piercing blue eyes.

"Mother, what a wonderful surprise." Elijah hissed and my eyes widen in shock. This was Elijah's mother? She was supposed to be the creator of the originals, the original witch.

"Son, I know what you plan on doing on the solstice, I can't let that happen." she said with a stern voice. Elijah's eyes flared with rage before he composed himself.

"You just watch me." he snarled and raced towards her. I had no idea what he was doing until he placed a dagger in her heart and she slowly collapsed in his arms.

"Oh mother, when are you ever going to learn?" he whispered as he stroked her hair.

"Well since that's out of the way, what are we supposed to do now?" I asked him. He was still staring down at his mother while he spoke,

"Keep Elena safe, and prepare for the solstice." he said.

"Did you kill her?" Stefan asked him.

"How do you kill an original? When you find out please let me know?" With that we left him alone to collect his thoughts. I raced to Elena's house just to see if she was safe.

I stood outside of her window and heard her light, airy voice. She was laughing at something Bonnie said and it warmed my heart. I decided that I was going to let her and her friend have some peace and made my way home. I was content with just the thought that Elena was safe.

* Night of the Solstice*

Elena

I was walking up the steps to this huge mansion with Damon beside me. We were holding hands and having a conversation about nothing in particular. Over the past several months Damon and I have grown extremely close and from the looks of it so have Bonnie and Stefan. They were walking behind us and were just as close as Damon and I. I could hear Bonnie giggling at something Stefan said and it made me smile.

"What's so amusing my love?" Damon asked, I was getting a little too comfortable with him calling me that.

"Nothing. I'm just glad that Bonnie has found someone that makes her smile." I shrugged and then Damon's smile matched my own.
