Quidditch Tryouts

Jimmy's Perspective

"Are you excited?" Joel asked Jimmy at breakfast.

"For what?" Jimmy asked.

Joel rolled his eyes, "Quidditch practice is today."

"Oh yeah!" Jimmy said, remembering, "When?"

"Right before lunch." Joel said, "I'll come get you."

Jimmy nodded and turned to Kelly.

"Wanna help me out with Divination homework?"

"Sure."

Kelly and Jimmy were in their Common Room, working together.

Kelly had her textbook out and was looking at it before writing down things down.

Jimmy was working but his panic about try outs distracted him and he started to stare out the window.

"You know we're supposed to be writing about predictions, not staring out the window, right?" Kelly joked.

Jimmy blushed a bit and rolled his eyes.

"What's up?"

"I'm just worried about try outs."

"You'll do fine. What are you trying out for?"

"Joel said that I'd be a good Seeker."

"Ooo! Seeker's a good one!"

"I'm just worried. They're the most important."

"You'll do fine." Kelly said.

Joel then walked over to them, his broom over his shoulder, "Come on, Jim. We gotta head out."

Jimmy nodded and got up.

He walked to his dorm to grab his broom before walking out with Joel.

"You ready?" Joel asked.

Jimmy looked around the field.

Some other people had come out to watch the try outs and Jimmy got nervous.

"You'll do fine." Joel patted Jimmy's back.

Some people had showed up to try out for Seeker so Jimmy had some competition.

As Jimmy watched the other people go, he started to wish he hadn't eaten such a big breakfast.

"Alright!" Scar called out, "For second beater with Joel, I want Jay Smith!"

A boy with ginger hair walked up next to Joel, smiling.

"For the third chaser with Jade and Sam, I want Lora Rave!"

Another girl with blonde hair that was in a pixie cut walked up.

She high fived Scar and walked over to Jade and Sam.

"And finally, for Seeker,"

Jimmy's stomach lurched and his palms started sweating.

"I want Jimmy Shadow-Darity!"

Jimmy's jaw fell and people started clapping.

"Good job Jim!" Joel said, patting Jimmy's back.

Jimmy smiled, butterflies in his stomach.

Kelly ran down to the field and hugged him, making Jimmy blush.

"You were great! I didn't know you could fly like that!"

"Me neither." Jimmy said, laughing nervously.

Jimmy caught a glimpse of cyan and saw that Scott was walking away.

"Scott and Tom saw?"

"Yeah, they wanted to see you fly."

Jimmy smiled.

I have friends.

As Jimmy walked up to the Common Room, he realized that he should write a letter to his parents, telling them what happened.

I have to tell Lizzie too!

Jimmy put down his broom and took off towards the Slytherin Common Room.

Jimmy skidded to a stop in front of the painting.

"Password?"

Ah, that's right...a password.

"Hey! What are you doing here?!" An Australian voice shouted.

Jimmy jumped and turned around.

A girl who had long, light brown hair walked up to him.

"Ah, you're Lizzie's brother, aren't ya? What do you need?" She asked, folding her arms.

"Er- I wanted to talk to her."

"About what?"

"I made my Quidditch team, and I wanted to tell her."

The girl looked at Jimmy up and down and then shrugged.

"Alright. Balderdash." She told the portrait.
It opened up and the girl walked in.

Jimmy was about to follow but she stopped him.

"Better if you stay out here, trust me."

Jimmy nodded and sat outside, waiting.

After a minute, Lizzie walked out.

"What?" She asked, "You interrupted the important conversation I was having with Grian."

"Jesus, sorry, I just wanted to tell you I made the Quidditch team."

"That's great!" She smiled, "What position? Are you a beater with Joel?"

"Nope. I'm a Seeker."

Her face turned to concern, "Oh. Jim, that's an important role."

"I know."

"You know Seekers normally get beat up the most."

"Yeah, but I'll be fine."

Lizzie hugged her brother, "Nice job, Jim. Sorry I didn't go to try outs; I didn't think it was important."

"But it was a chance you could see your boyfriend." Jimmy said in a mocking voice.

"Oh you- "

Lizzie started tickling her brother and he started laughing, trying to swat her away.

"No! Liz!" He giggled.

She stopped and kissed his forehead.

"I gotta go. Love you."

"I hate you." He mumbled.

"What?"

"I love you too!" He called as he started to walk away.

She giggled and disappeared into the Slytherin Common Room.

As Jimmy walked up to the Hufflepuff Common Room, he saw a poster on the notice board.

'Hogsmeade trip on September 15!'

That's only three weeks away! Jimmy smiled.

The first trip was going to be an eventful one, that's for sure.
