Tuoba Yu

{Cheng'an, 14th Day}

Women were such fascinating creatures.

Growing up, Tuoba Han and Jingmu were the ladies men. Their legitimate status and smooth-talking ways made them weak in the knees. I despised social interactions, specifically where I had to make small-talk with women.

It's like they all operated on one brain cell, and used the same tricks from the "how to snag a prince" playbook. No, I did not care about their new dress, or their doughy makeup, or their bedside manner. I really thought all women were the same.

Until now.

Li Weiyoung.

In all my years, I have never met a woman bold enough to attack a prince. Even with a small dagger, she was a force to be reckoned with. I had no desire to find out what she could do with one. She had managed to best me, twice now.

And I think I liked that.

Something about this girl was so refreshing, and different. However, she was still replaceable. I would forget about her as quickly as I had met her.

"Sir!"

I jumped out of my thoughts when I heard Physician Liu calling me. I was sitting in my room in the clinic, pondering yesterday's events. Slowly, I rose from my bed and followed the physcian's voice.

"Is everything, alright?" I asked.

"Miss Weiyoung is awake! Although she's still weak, I am very pleased with her progress. If she continues to improve, I will release her in another week or so."

"That's wonderful."

"However, I do need your help. Another patient needs immediate care, and I cannot tend to Miss Weiyoung right now. Can you please deliver this tonic for her? It's a soup that will replenish her strength."

Before I could protest, the doctor shoved the plate into my hands.

"Thank you, I appreciate it." And he sidestepped me so quickly, it's almost as if he was not even there.

There was no way in hell Cheng An would be hearing about this.
