Weiyoung {Ming Province}

"Young lady, I don't understand why you insisted on this trip. There are plenty of temples in Ping City to worship at," Zi Yan said.

"I wanted to get away from the city for awhile," I answered. Besides, Jun Tao still hasn't contacted me. Perhaps I'll be able to search for her, I thought to myself. After what felt like hours,  the wagon came to a slow stop.

Zi Yan peeked through the curtain and turned to me. "Lady Weiyoung, we have arrived."

Qingfeng Abbey was a small temple in the Ming province. The building was made out of brick and had cobblestones outlining the front. It painfully reminded me of the temple in Liang. Hopefully, this one could also give me refuge. Bai Zhi grasped my hand as I exited the carriage.

 A priest greeted us at the door with a smile.

"Lady Weiyoung, it is an honor to have someone from the Li family during these hard times. We have prepared a room for you already. Please, this way," he said.

I let the man lead me into the temple to a room on the far left. Once we entered it, I was met with warm sunlight and lavender scents. Although it was simpler than the room I was used to, it was certainly more welcoming.

"I know it's plain, but hopefully, it will suffice. I am Master Shen, the high priest of this temple. Please, stay as long as you like. If you need anything, just let me know."

"Thank you, Master Shen."

Once he shut the door behind him, Bai Zhi, Zi Yan, and I got settled in. I only brought what I needed for the short trip. However, the act of unpacking gave me time to collect my thoughts.

Before giving it too much thought, I addressed my handmaidens. "Bai Zhi and Zi Yan, I plan to go out for a few hours. Alone. There's something that I need to do."

"Lady Weiyoung, it's dangerous out there. What if you get hurt?" Bai Zhi asked worriedly.

"Honestly, you worry too much for a lady. I'll be fine. Besides, I'll be back well before it gets dark. Before either of them could protest, I gestured to the pink robe in my hands. "Now, help me get changed. I don't want to attract attention."

With my handmaidens gone, I did not have to explain my actions. Before Jun Tao left Li Manor, we agreed to meet here and strategize together. However, how did I know she hadn't been captured?
