Her heels clacked as her hand peeked through the night. They're & late. Mamí soured. Duchess Mira Delise De Luna never liked being late. But her daughter,
Lady Lurisa paid her no mind. It was her sister's day. She floated down the carriage.

Lady Lurisa picked up her blue skirt with light pinch & matched her mother's poise & grace with ease. Her large hat of navy blue satin, pearls & other Jewels sparkled beautifully reflected by the puddle made by the rain in the morning.

Sighing, she remembered the whines coming from other ladies of the possibility of the rain staying grumpily all day & ruining the night festivities. Fortunately, the earth was quenched.

But at least she found her dress that matched her hat. Lurisa likes to look for the positives. The dress was made beautifully. Each stitch is crafted with different hues of blue. She bit her smile, Blue has always looked beautiful on her dark skin. Beading across the bodice matching her beauty & a large feather on her hat that bounces with each pointed fluttery step. Her navy blue fan dreamily held in her fingers as if she was born to whisk the air, otherwordly so.

"Today's the day," said Aline, her excited sister. Her ribbon woven braids danced as her big smile puffed her face. Her bright yellow dress will be the talk of all the young girls. As it should be, after all, Lurisa did most of the trend settings. A few tea parties here & a little push there via whispering in the up and coming ears. Voilà. Child's play.

Yellow was always her sister's favorite color. The vibrant color hasn't been in the scene for 10 years. Not since the Young Queen's death, but now is the time for change. Especially when the kingdom has finally woken up to celebrate the legacy of the Young Queen. It was only a matter of time, Lurisa thought. After all, she wasn't the only one who owned a successful boutique in the capital.

With a tiny squeal, Karina pulled Lurisa's blue sleeve. She chuckled, following her little sister's gaze. Pass the cobblestone & the tile steps underneath the palm tree. There's Lord Henry & the little lord of Orden George. Waiting for their dates, who's running fashionably late. The moonlight shone soft, aware of Henry stature. His curls, his dimples & those warm eyes all what Lurisa loves.

Henry & Lurisa have been engaged for two years. The match was well made, said to The Northern Light. A newspaper press gracing talks between politics, to the latest gossip & fashion. If anyone has ever had their engagement shown on the paper, their romance will be the talk of the town. Lurisa & Henry were no different.

Author's note:

I was watching Howl's Moving Castle & was inspired by the background characters. I wondered what would their lives were like while the movie is taking place in the beginning. Also, I wanted to write more people of color. Especially Black people as the main characters. Because there's not enough fantasy that is centering dark skin Black women while just being beautiful, kind & honestly, fabulously wealthy. In reality, there are Black women who are wealthy. Just like in the past, like Madam C.J. Walker.

Also, Black women deserve to see themselves like the characters in a studio ghibli movie. :)
