-March 1942-

I straighten my skirt right as there's a knock on the door. My smile grows as I practically run to the door. On the other side stands a handsome and cheeky, yet shy, man with bright blue eyes.

James Buchanan Barnes.

The man who had managed to weasel his way into my heart and make me fall in love with him. I always told myself never to love, as I don't age normally but with him... our connection was instant. We've spent every day together this passed two months. He quickly made me his girlfriend after week one.

"Hi sunflower." He's holding a bouquet of sunflowers, my favorite. Once he figured that out, he began calling me sunflower.

"Hi Jamie." He steps inside, handing me the bouquet. I cup his cheek and bring his lips to mine, smiling as he wraps his arms around my waist.

"I missed you." He mumbles as we pull back.

"I missed you more." He scoffs.

"Not possible." I smile and kiss him again. Once we pull back, he shuts my door and locks it. "You look beautiful, baby." I blush at the compliment.

"Thank you. You look pretty good yourself." I place the flowers in a vase and fill it with water.

"Um... I was thinking... would you want to meet Steve? We can go to that diner you love?" He asks.

"I'd love to. Is there a special occasion?" I ask. He's mentioned me meeting Steve a few times but I could tell he was hesitant so I never pushed it. I know they're like brothers and they're all they've got.

"I just want to introduce him to the woman I love." He shrugs nonchalantly. Did he just... did he just say what I think he just said? Or am I hearing things? I mean, yes, I love him but I still have to tell him about my past and I don't know if he'll love me after that. "Baby? Was I not supposed to say that?" He rounds the small counter so he's in front of me.

"No... no. But there's something I need to tell you before you actually say those words." I sigh heavily. I don't know why but I didn't think this day would come this quick. I know he'll run away. He's got every reason to.

"What's wrong?"

"Let's sit." I usher him to my small couch and take his hands in mine, resting them in my lap. "Do you remember me telling you that I woke up one day with no memory of who I was?" He simply nods, his thumb rubbing the skin on my hand. "There's more to it than that. When I woke up... it was 1892."

His cute face scrunch's up in confusion and I can tell he's doing the math in his head. "How is that possible? You-you... is this because I said that I loved you?" He asks.

"No! Baby, no. I love you, too. But I need to tell you about my past." I let out a shaky breath, trying to prepare myself for this. And the possibility of him leaving.

"I don't know where I'm from nor why I'm this old but over the years, I discovered these powers. I'm extremely strong, fly, and I can shoot ice out of my hands. I promise you I don't understand any of these either. But I needed to tell you. I understand if you want to leave me." He's quiet. I can't bring myself to look at him, scared at what I might find. He probably hates me. I would too, if I were him.

"Show me." He whispers, making me look up at him. His blue eyes are looking directly into mine. He doesn't seem scared, just curious.

"Are you sure?" I ask.

"Yes." He nods. I sigh heavily and reach over to the heavy oak coffee table and lift it with ease. "Holy shit." He gasps. I then make an icicle in my hands and he gasps again. "Ok... wow. I um... shit sunflower." He sighs heavily.

"I know... I'm sorry." I look down at my lap, too afraid to look at him. He's going to leave. I know he will.

"Baby, look at me." He lifts my head so I'm forced to look at him. "I love you for you. While I do have a lot of questions, they don't matter right now. You are the love of my life. I don't care that you aren't normal. Screw normal. Honestly, it just made you hotter." I scoff and playfully smack him but he only smiles. "Can I call you icicle now?" I hit him a little harder and he cracks up laughing.

This is why I love this man. He always knows how to cheer me up. I don't know what the future holds for us but I'm still excited because I'll be with him and that's what matters. He's my best friend.

He slowly calms down and cups my face with his hands.

"I love you, sunflower. I've known it since the day I met you. This doesn't change anything for me." He admits. "But please don't kick my ass when you get mad at me." I giggle and press my lips to his, feeling him smile.

"Don't make me mad and I won't." I mumble against his lips. He captures mine again, our tongues tangling together. Every time he kisses me, it's like I can breathe again. We slowly pull back, breathing heavily.

"I love you, Jamie." He smiles and kisses me again.

"Say it again." He demands.

"I love you. So much." He smiles brightly and it takes my breath away. Every time he smiles... it's my favorite thing. "We should be going." He sighs but nods and stands, offering me his hand.

"Just so you know, Steve gets nervous around women. I've showed him your picture but that's nothing compared to the real thing." We walk out of my home, him locking the door behind us. I hook my arm threw his as we walk down the street.

"What have you told him about me?" I ask.

"That you're extremely smart, too good for me and way out of my league. I'm still not sure how I pulled you. I told him not to ask about your past, that you're not from here and don't have many people in your life. That I love you and want to marry you one day." He states.

"You do?" I ask, shocked.

"Of course. I mean, yea, we've only been together two months or so, but i know you're it." I smile and kiss his cheek. He turns and kisses my forehead.

We found the corner and the diner comes into view. I see a small man fidgeting next to the door. "That's him." James states. "Steve!" James yells and waves. Just as Steve goes to wave back, he gets hit by the door opening.

"Watch it, asswipe!" The jerk yells.

"Oh fuck." James huffs. We run across the street, towards the man who is now backing Steve into a corner. The man goes to swing but I catch his arm just in time.

"Maybe you should pick on someone your own size." I throw him back, his body hitting the cement. I start to walk towards him until James calls me.

"Baby, don't. He's not worth it." The bully stands, stumbling on his feet.

"I don't hit women but you might be the exception." He goes to swing at me but I punch him right in the jaw and he goes down, unconscious.

"Holy shit." I hear two voices from behind me. "Where did you find her?" Steve gapes.

"Hi, I'm Eva. It's lovely to meet you, Steve." I smile down at him.

"Y-yea y-y-you to-too." He stutters.

"Let's go in, shall we?" They blindly nod at me. I smack James on the arm and he snaps out of it, opening the door for us. I walk in, asking for a table for three. I feel James' hand on the small of my back, leading me to our booth.

"That was hot." He whispers as we sit. I instantly blush and of course, he smiles.

"Thank you, Eva. For outside." Steve says.

"Of course. But you owe me now. I need every embarrassing story you have on him." Steve smiles widely and James groans.

"Baby... why?" He whines.

"How much time you got?"
