His screams echo the room

His screams echo the room. We try to get him out and I nearly expose myself to get them to stop. The machine opens and I run to him. "Steve?" I ask, catching him as he falls out.

"I'm ok..." He huffs.

"How do you feel?" Peggy asks.

"Taller." I chuckle.

"I'll admit, you're hot." He scoffs and rolls his eyes.

"Don't let my best friend hear you say that." I smile and he slips on a shirt. Suddenly, an explosion goes off and gun shots ring. I cover Steve, who tries to cover me. Dr Erskine falls to the ground and we run to him. I watch him point to Steve's chest before taking his last breath.

"Go!" I yell, watching as the man who caused this runs off. Steve runs after him. I'd help, but I'm supposed to be average. Peggy runs after him, leaving us to deal with the aftermath.

I cover the doctors body and help tend to the wounded. Being a nurse comes in handy some days.

"So, you're related to Rogers?" Stark asks.

"In a way. I'm married to his best friend. He's in the 107th." I explain.

"Lucky man." He comments.

"I'm the lucky one." I dab his forehead with a towel.

"His name?" He asks.

"Sergeant James Barnes." The door opens and Steve walks back in, soaking wet. "Are you ok?" I run over to him.

"I'm fine. Are you?" I simply nod and he pulls me in a hug. He kisses the top of my head as we pull back.

"You sure you two ain't together?" Some man asks. I simply roll my eyes and we follow Peggy out.

"Are you two...?" She asks.

"No. He is genuinely my brother. We've been through some things together so we're close." I explain.

"I see." I climb in next to Steve and Peggy sits next to me.

"Thanks for coming." He sighs. "I was pretty nervous since I was basically the first subject."

"While I'm happy it worked out, you're stupid for doing that." He and the driver chuckle.

"I know but now I can actually fight. I'm stronger and faster than the average man." Yea you're definitely not stronger than me.

We pull up to this warehouse and I climb out after Steve. "How are you doing?" He asks.

"I'm ok... I miss him. I've been visiting the cemetery, putting flowers down for his parents and Isabella. I also laid some down for yours." He looks down at me, shock clear on his face.

"Thank you. That means a lot." I give a small smile and nod. We walk inside and a nurse takes him to run tests. I simply follow Peggy into a room, finding Howard already there. Not sure how they all got here this quickly but I don't care enough to ask.
