In the streets of Manhattan, Peter Parker was sharing a taxi cab with Mary Jane Watson. They were a restaurant for lunch. Unfortunately, there was a bit of a traffic jam. Absolutely none of the cars were moving. The cause was unknown, but Peter stuck his head out of the window to see what it was.
“Peter, it’s okay,” MJ told him. “Just be patient.”
He pulls his head back in. “Sorry. I just wanted to find out what’s wrong.”
“No matter what, you can’t fix every problem.”
“Doesn’t mean I stop trying.”
“And that’s why I love you.”
Peter did not seem happy anymore. “Then why did you leave?"MJ became sad. “I had to leave, after what Norman did.”
“I understand, but I was hurt too, but I didn’t have you like I usually did.” She sighed. “Peter…”
Their conversation was interrupted by loud music playing over loudspeakers. It was unclear where they were, but they were playing “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5. Then, about three cars ahead, a cloud of green smoke appears. It dissipates, revealing Quentin Beck. He was dressed in a white blazer and slacks with a dark purple dress shire and white square-end tie. He was dancing to the music.
Peter looked at MJ. “I gotta go.”
She smirked. “Go get ‘em, Tiger.”
He runs out of the car, merging with the other panicked civilians. Meanwhile, Beck continued his performance. It was interrupted by Spider-Man swinging in. He shouted, “Hey Mysty,” before swing-kicked him, sending him flying a short distance to the sidewalk.
Beck stood up. “There you are.”
Spider-Man landed in front of him. “What do you want?”
“Just an audience… and you.”
“Where is your fishbowl?”
“Thought I should tone down the colors.”
“Who broke you out of prison?”
“Why don’t you ask my associate?” He looks to his left.
When Spider-Man turned his sights to where Beck was looking, he found someone dressed in Mysterio’s costume, consisting of green and silver body armor with a blue-violet cape and a glass dome filled with mist. It emitted a green laser that Spider-Man dodged, but it blew up a store. Spider-Man shot a web that seemed to go through the figure, revealing it as a hologram, and it webbed a flying, spherical droid against a wall. The hologram shut off and the hero punched Beck into unconsciousness. He then quickly ran to the store, finding it completely empty.
“Hail, Spider-Man.” Someone said.
Spider-Man spun around and saw two of the Avengers: Thor and Hawkeye.
“W-what are you guys doing back here?”
“We’ve come to take in Mysterio for questioning,” explained Hawkeye.
“What? Sure he’s a bad guy, but he’s not like, you know, an Avengers-level bad guy.”
“He knows where to find the Slayer.”
“Come with us, Spider-Man,” Thor said. “I’m sure you could be useful.”
“Alright.”
Avengers Tower was located behind the Grand Central Terminal in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. It was designed by Tony Stark and was known for being the headquarters for the superhero team, the Avengers. However, after the deaths of Tony and Captain America, it was abandoned and the team disbanded. All that remained was an uninhabited building with all their old gear. It also had a security system that only allowed those with an Avengers ID card inside.
“Why don’t you do the honors,” Hawkeye suggested to Spider-Man.
The web-slinger uses his ID card to let them all into the building. Just as the three Avengers entered, Spider-Man felt that something was. He could not figure it out, but he brushed it off and followed Thor and Hawkeye to interrogation.
