In Greenwich Village, people walked on the sidewalk and drove in the streets. On Bleeker Street, the earth began to shake. At an intersection, the road began to crack. Suddenly, a large, mechanical, worm-like robot. Its mouth was a hole with many rows of spinning teeth. From its maw erupted a giant, metallic roar that put fear into the heart of the civilians.
Across the city, every screen projected The Slayer’s visage. “People of New York, I told you all to rid the city of your heroes. You didn’t listen and now my worm will destroy the city.”
Spider-Man landed on a nearby rooftop. “I really hope Doctor Robot’s plan works.” He leaps over the robot and covers its mouth with a web, then lands on a rooftop across the street.
News helicopters flew around the area, except one of them was not a news helicopter. It was transmitting video footage back to the office of Richard Fisk, who was not happy.
“Of course Spider-Man had to interfere in my plans.” He makes a call on his phone. “Send in the Shocker.”
Back in Greenwich Village, Spider-Man was trying to keep the worm still by attaching webs between it and the surrounding buildings.
“Why don’t you stick around.” Once he said that he groaned. “I need better material.”
His spider-sense rang seconds before something punched him in the back. It had a tremendous force that sent him flying across the street. Once he got up, he saw some dressed in a yellow quilted costume with red details. It was similar to the one once worn by Herman Schultz, also known as the Shocker. The villain leaped off the roof, using his vibro-shock gauntlets to propel him up and to the rooftop that Spider-Man was on.
“Howdy, Spider-Man.”
“I know you’re not Herman. Let me guess, you’re the cowboy from the sewers.”
“Name’s Jackson Brice. I’m the new Shocker.”
“So what made you choose a career in super-villainy? Was it the money or the chance to get beaten up by me?”
“Bein’ a bad guy is more interestin’. Now I get to kill ya, boy.” He fires a shockwave at Spider-Man, but the hero managed to dodge easily.
“I sure hope that Robot was as good of an engineer as he used to be.” He inserts a device into his web-shooters. A holographic display appears. He fires two web-lines. One attaches to a rooftop generator and other to a red, glowing eye on the robot. It produced a powerful electric shock threw the worm. Prior to death, it released a metallic roar and collapsed on the street.
Shocker seemed angry. “This isn’t over.” He jumps off the roof.
When Spider-Man checked to see if he survived, he saw an Enforcer armored truck driving away.
Meanwhile, at Fisk Industries, Alistair Smythe entered Richard’s office and informed him, “The worm was defeated.”
Richard chuckled. “That’s why we have Bard.”
Within the Oscorp tower, Doctor Octavius was performing a highly dangerous experiment. On his body was a harness with robotic tentacles. In a lab across the hallway was Malcolm Bard. He began feeling very ill and coughs up a metallic grey goo.
“What’s wrong with m…” Before he could finish his sentence, he exploded into a cloud of dust. Small amounts of his particles entered Octavius’s lab. They somehow interfered with the equipment. The result was a large explosion that killed everyone on that floor.
