Within one of the floors of Avengers Tower, Quentin Beck was in an interrogation room with Hawkeye. Behind a two-way mirror, Spider-Man and Thor watched and listened. Spider-Man could not shake the feeling that something was off. He decided to take a walk down the hallway.
“What to do?” He asked himself.
He wandered upstairs, looking for anything interesting. Eventually, he finds the lounge, where the Avengers used to relax. There was a dartboard, pool table, and a foosball table. There was a stairway that led up to the laboratory where Tony Stark and Bruce Banner used to work. In the center was a table with a holographic display. When he touches it, a female voice greets him with, “Hello Spider-Man.” He recognized the voice as A.N.D.I., Tony’s artificial intelligence assistant.
“Hi A.N.D.I.,” Spider-Man responded. He gets an idea. “Can you bring up the locations of the other Avengers?”
A holographic globe appears before him showing where the former Avengers were in real-time. Black Widow was in Budapest, Hungary; Hulk was in New Mexico, USA; and Captain Marvel was off-world. However, the strangest thing was that it had Thor located in London, England.
“Um, A.N.D.I., there seems to be something wrong. It says that Thor is in England.”
“There is nothing wrong. Thor is in London with Miss Foster.”
“Then who is in the tower with me?”
“Just Quentin Beck.”
Suddenly, he feels his Spider-Sense tingling and dodges as something rapidly fires upon him. It decloaks, revealing itself as one of Mysterio’s flying drones. Spider-Man uses a web to smash it against a wall. Then, the villain drifts upward. Now wearing his old costume, green and silver body armor with a blue-violet cape and a glass dome helmet filled with mist. Purple smoke came out of his feet and covered the floor below.
“I have to thank you, I couldn’t have gotten in here without you.” Mysterio gloated.
“Doesn’t matter. You’re still the same fishbowl-headed C-lister from before.”
“Wrong. I’ve been upgraded.” With the flick of his wrist, he was now holding a clear glass ball in each hand. He threw them to the ground, causing an explosion that knocked Spider-Man onto a lab table. Mysterio immediately went up to him and grabbed his throat with one hand, pinning him down. As the hero struggled to free himself from the enhanced strength that his suit gave him. The villain raised his hand and a knife appeared in it in a puff of smoke. He had a firm grasp on it and appeared ready to plunge it into his enemy’s chest.
“I wish I could kill you now.” Mysterio drove it into the table, barely missing Spider-Man’s head. “I’ll save that for the others.” He and the knife vanished in a puff of smoke.
Spider-Man quickly got up and looked around. “A.N.D.I., where is he?”
“I do not know,” she informed him. “Security systems have been hacked by an unidentified virus. I cannot alert the Avengers or identify anyone within the building.”
At the tower's main lobby, something big crashed through the front doors. It was three of Spider-Man’s old enemies: Rhino, Electro, and Scorpion. They were being led by the new Shocker, Jackson Brice.
“Okay boys, we got a bug to squash,” Jackson said.
