PHILOSOPHER.
Chapter 26.
╚═══════════

Mattheo steps into the Undercroft. He's mulling over what he's just heard from Snape and Quirrell. He's not paying attention, not to the three pair of hands that all push him at once.

Mattheo falls back against the wall, now alert that all three of his friends are surrounding him with livid looks on their faces.

"What's up with you three?!" Mattheo demands of the three of them, he swats all of their hands away in ire.

"You've been gone for an hour" Artemis shouts at him. "We thought that Snape had gotten to you, we were about to march down to his office and see if we could find you" Artemis shouts at Mattheo. They were all rallying themselves to fight.

"Everyone was waiting for you, where did you go?" Frey asks of Mattheo.

Mattheo sees the angered expressions on all of their faces. All of them worried that Mattheo had somehow gotten himself into a skirmish with Snape and had been hurt. All three of them ready to tear Snape apart for answers.

"Okay, I know that I shouldn't have just gone off without telling you guys, but it was a time sensitive issue" Mattheo tells the group.

"This had better be good" Lorenzo warns Mattheo. "Or I'm going to get revenge for the near-heart attack you've almost given me today" Lorenzo points a threatening finger in Mattheo's face.

Mattheo smiles at the three of them, he knows that he's in good hands if anything ever happens to him. They look ready to storm the castle to find him in only a few minutes.

Artemis and Frey sit against the back wall next to each other. Lorenzo takes a seat at the work desk that Mattheo made for Artemis to study at. And Mattheo sits cross-legged in the middle of the group.

Mattheo notices that Lorenzo has a forming bruise around his eye. "What happened to you?" Mattheo asks his friend.

"Draco, Crabbe and Goyle. Don't worry about it, since they look a lot worse" Lorenzo shakes his head. Neville and the other Gryffindor boys had kicked the crap out of them. "Go on" Lorenzo prompts Mattheo.

Mattheo fills the group in on what he's overheard in the Forbidden Forest, and they don't like having to put their faith in Quirrell.

"...he thinks there's something that only Quirrell can get past?" Frey asks. That sounds like something that must be strong in dark magic.

"...something that maybe Professor Hecat could have put in place?" Artemis suggests. "Fluffy may only be one thing that is protecting the Philosopher's Stone? Hecat could have put in place some pretty advanced anti-dark arts spells?" Artemis suggests. Artemis doubts that Quirrell will have been able to put up any defences.

"You think?" Mattheo asks. "Hecat scares me a little bit. I would be worried of her alone" Mattheo comments.

Hecat's work as an Unspeakable, and hundreds of years experience at her back, make her a rather deadly opponent.

"It makes sense. Hagrid, Hecat, Flitwick, Sprout, McGonagall as well maybe, maybe even your mum" Artemis tells Lorenzo. All of the teachers that are masters in their field, that have strong magic in all magical fields, enough to protect the stone.
