CHAPTER TEN.
memories that haunt

—— The Hunters of Artemis pamphlet sat on her neatly made bed, taunting her. Her eyes were elsewhere, as if it hurt her physically to look at it. Seven years later and the thought of joining them still lingered in her mind. Seven years ago, it seemed like the most appealing thing, and the. it has disgusted her.

The pamphlet was a brochure for the Hunters, immortal maidens who served the Goddess of the Hunt and aided her on quest. Danica was fine with that, an eternal girls club with Annie? That was a dream.

The part she was cautious about was having to give up on any boys. Once she did there was no coming back. Sometimes even that seemed appealing. She wouldn't have to think of her silly little feelings towards the son of Poseidon. She hated them, it made her feel weak...like at some point she would fall head over heels for him and she would constantly need him to relay on.

She wonder if it would be better. Would they leave her mind? Or would it plague her mind forever?

She was glaring at the pamphlet when a knock at the cabin door sounded through the crowed room. The door opened when Connor passed by, he glanced down at the pamphlet with sad eyes but didn't speak. Annabeth walked in first, she quickly shoved the pamphlet into the bedside table she shared with another Hermes camper, before Thalia could see it.

Danica had choose to spend the last couple of weeks after the summer at camp, which eventually lead to a couple months and before she knew it Annabeth and Thalia were back at camp for their week away from school.
Danica was supposed to join them, but she settled for heading back to Florida around christmas time to spend it with her Aunt and Cousin. Her aunt was a teacher at the local high school and offered to send her some school work every three months.

Annabeth noticed the pamphlet, not bothering to voice her opinion on it as she had done already the night before.
This was what made Danica think of it, although over the years, she'd brought it out just to shove it back into the dark space she'd pulled it out from moments later.

"Have you done your homework?" asked Thalia, ignoring Annabeths flushed cheeks. Thalia and Annabeth had been given homework from their classes to finished over a weeks break. If Thalia were to find out that she and Annabeth were thinking about joining the hunters, she wouldn't be too happy. When the hunters had approached the girls all those years ago, the daughter of Zeus had immediately decided and said she couldn't leave Luke. Ever since, the Hunters and her have never been on good terms.

Danica nodded, she too had homework from her aunt to do over the small break. "Hand it over."

Thalia grinned and handed over the paper. For a girl who could fight an entire monster army, homework seemed to her kryptonite. With only a week of school, they'd given her enough homework to last the entire school year. She found Ancient Greek easy, but that was only because it was like revision to her rather than school work.

"You should really be doing that yourself," Annabeth muttered to her, shaking her head disapprovingly, like a mother really. "What if we get tested on it? You'll fail because you won't have any clue to what the test is about."

Thalia only shrugged, unbothered by Annabeth's scolding. Danica laughed a little, shaking her head as she pulled out a pen. Annabeth looked at her. "Are you really going to do this? She'll fail!"

Like Thalia, Danica shrugged. She didn't really care all that much if Thalia failed, but she enjoyed helping her cheat on her homework. Danica would be lying if she said she didn't like school work. She enjoyed it, actually. It was about the only thing that stopped her mind from racing so much, she really liked maths, however. The problem solving was what she liked the most.
