Sonic had barely even crawled in through the small window to Donut Lord's garage, therefore hence the fallen garbage cans and tracking in dirt on the workbench.
"Okay, I'm in," he whispered. He carefully crept down from the workbench onto the floor while adding, "With minimal damage to Donut Lord's property..." Of all places, the hedgehog thought Donut Lord's house was the next safest bet.
He reached into his satchel and pulled out a ring. "Here we go," he told himself. "It didn't work out on Earth, but that's okay! You're going to a safe world. A nice, safe world filled with mushrooms — mushrooms that will be your only... friends." Sonic slightly grimaced.
"That's sounds awful. I can't do this!" He tried to reassure himself. "You have to do it. There's no other option."
"But if I go, I'll never get to see that newcomer girl again!" Sonic quietly whined. "Her... with her mint green hair and... amethyst eyes..." He sighed happily at the thought of her, before realizing, "No, no. You are talking crazy!" He growled at himself, gritting his teeth. "She and you are way too different. Besides, you can't take her with you." He eased up.
"You have to learn to let go," he told himself. Sonic took a a moment to take a deep breath before making his final decision. "All right."
As soon as he was about to throw the ring, the side-door to the garage flew open.
"SFPD, pending background check!" Shouted Tom, pointing the tranq gun and flashlight while looking around. "Paws in the air!" He thought he saw the flicker of something and pointed the tranq gun and flashlight at the small blue dude. He was at a loss for words.
The two just both stared at each other, paralyzed, until they heard a young girl's voice drawing near.
"Tom, I'm telling you," Willow quietly hissed. "My heart is telling me that we shouldn't be in here —" Her eyes landed on Sonic as soon as her head came through. "You," she said, in a realized whisper.
"Uh, meow?" He sheepishly smiled.
Now as anyone would know, a typical grownup who experiences a first-time encounter with talking animals/aliens would obviously scream like heck. And that's what Tom did.
In Willow's perspective, it was too loud for her to tolerate, resulting in her to crouch down and cover her ears with her index fingers. Sonic screamed back in response to Tom, both boys freaking out.
Tom's finger tensed up on the trigger, firing a dart at Sonic's left leg. Everyone stopped screaming immediately.
"Ow!" Sonic cried out. Willow quickly realized what happened and glared at Tom. "Dude! What was that for?!"
"I'm sorry! I panicked!" He tried to fend himself.
Sonic was already losing consciousness, but caught interest of a tower on Tom's T-shirt that read, 'San Francisco, Here I Come!' .
"San... Francisco...?" He read aloud to himself.
His grip loosened and the ring dropped out of his hand, rolling onto the floor as he collapsed. The ring landed on one side and opened a portal on the cold concrete.
Tom dropped his tranq gun in total shock, while Willow just awed in amazement. She was more used to seeing unordinary things, since her imagination gave her an awfully good advantage.
But the enchantment didn't last forever, though.
Both Sonic and Willow watched as the ring satchel fell out of his hand near the edge of the portal, then fell in. Willow failed to quickly snag it in time as the two watched the satchel land on the highest platform of the same pyramid tower. "No!" She cried out loud.
