We drove on south to Sacramento. I would glance at Sonic's unconscious state every now and then to see if he would wake up, but he didn't. His escape situation was going a whole lot more difficult than we expected. I just... felt so terrible having to leave him and Tom behind like that for my family.

The usual saying is "put your family first". But this time, I was going to put my friends in front of my family, first. And so, I made the conscious decision...

Willow finished jotting down the latest events in her journal just as the truck pulled up along the drop-off to the Sacramento Airport. Tom turned to the girl who was now sitting in the passenger's seat.

"Is this where they said to meet up?" he asked, referring to her parents. She slowly nodded.

"Alright. Go find a payphone and call them. But... try to keep your face out of sight."

She reached fro the door handled to let herself out, but hesitated. 'No... this feels... wrong.'

"What are you waiting for?"

She snapped out of her thoughts and quickly said, "I'm not going."

The sheriff looked really confused, "Wait, what??? Why not?"

"Sonic's more important."

"And so is getting you to your family. Now, go on!"

"I'm not leaving you two," Willow nearly stood up in her seat, more assertively. "You'll need me. You both will."

"How do you even know that?!"

Uncertain, she sat back down. The only way she got a sure enough feeling was to clench her hand over her heart. 'Always trust your heart,' she thought.

She waited... and waited... until a voice came as clear as day.

'You will be a great ally in the near future. So follow the hedgehog, wherever he goes.'

Willow quietly replied, "I don't know. You'll just have to trust me like I'm trusting my heart, right now. And right now, it's telling me to keep moving with you guys."

"Are you sure?" Tom asked, still concerned.

"My family can wait. It'll all be worth it once this is all over. Sonic is my top priority, now."

Tom was... beyond surprised. She was really gonna risk not being with her own family? Her own life? Just to help them?

He thought about it for about a minute, then smiled. "Alright, then."

Willow's face lit up. She quickly buckled up her seatbelt as he pulled out of the drop-off area.

"On to San Francisco!" he exclaimed.

It wasn't until two hours later when they arrived in the suburban area of the city.

"You're sure that your wife can help him?" Willow worried as they drove through a neighborhood.

The truck pulled to a stop and parked on the sidewalk in front of a white modern farmhouse-style apartment. The girl unbuckled and put her backpack on as she hopped out.

"Maddie is a certified nurse and veterinarian," the sheriff assured her, getting out and closing the door behind him. "so she should have no problem."

He went to the backseat and wrapped Sonic in a spare truck blanket. "Come on, buddy. You're gonna be alright. You're gonna be alright."
