Tuesday, July 2

Fifteen minutes later, Eddie comes walking back into Scoops Ahoy, now sporting a pair of headphones around his neck, attached to a Walkman on his hip. Steve's just about to comment when he notices what Eddie's carrying.

"You didn't."

Eddie grins. "Yes I did."

"God help me."

Eddie holds up the black t-shirt, on which is a faded logo that reads "Metallica." The letters are a 3D, blue-metal looking design, with lightning around it. "Pretty awesome, right? I thought the blue would go with your outfit."

Steve raises his eyebrows. "You want me to actually wear that?"

"Isn't that what you asked for?"

"I was... You know what, gimme it." Steve takes the t-shirt and puts it on over his sailor shirt. It fits fine, only a little awkward with the extra fabric underneath. "What do you think?"

Eddie folds his arms, thinking. "How about..." He steps forward, reaching over the counter to untuck the blue collar and red scarf.

Unfortunately this doesn't really work, because the t-shirt's neck is too small.

"Too bad, guess I'll have to—what are you doing?" Steve stops in time to get out of the way of Eddie hopping over the counter. He starts opening drawers and cabinets.

"I'm just looking for...aha!" Eddie resurfaces with a pair of scissors.

"Woah woah woah, do not come near my neck with those," Steve says, hands up in guarding position.

"Relax, your precious hair will be unharmed."

"What about the rest of me? I'd like to stay entirely unharmed!"

Eddie puts his free hand on his hip. "Fine, take the shirt off?"

Steve blinks. "What?"

"My t-shirt, Harrington, give it back."

"Oh, uh, okay." Steve takes it off and hands it to Eddie. He then takes the scissors and cuts into the neck of the shirt. "Hey, what are you doing?"

"Making modifications. I do it all the time."

Steve recalls the first time Eddie came into scoops, wearing a t-shirt with the sleeves ripped off. His vest with the pins and patches. How his belt looks like it has handcuffs around it. Steve's never done anything to his clothes.

Eddie hands the t-shirt back to Steve. "Alright, now put it on."

"What is this, dress up?"

Eddie laughs. "You're the one letting me, man."

Steve rolls his eyes, but pulls on the shirt once again. This time, the neckline sits just under the sailor shirt's collar, so it nearly looks like they're attached.

"Now that's metal," Eddie says, grinning.

Steve examines his work. "Wow. This is actually kinda impressive."

"Thank you, Steve. It's about time you said something. I've been trying to impress you all day."

Steve looks up from the shirt at Eddie. "Wait, what?"

"What the hell are you wearing?" Dustin says from behind the counter. Steve tries not to look startled, but he doesn't know how successful it is because what did Eddie just say?

Steve clears his throat. "Uh, Metallica."

"Duh. I can read, Steve. Why?"

"Okay, no need for snark. Eddie gave it to me."
