DAPHNE: So, Rod being a friend of my father's  meant he looked out for me. Neither of my parents were around much but Rod was willing to make a call when I hit rock bottom. I never had someone have so much faith in me, I guess. He acted like I didn't need him or anyone else to make it happen for me, pending I was sober.

All I know is that when I was blacking out on the steps of his house, eyes rolling to the back of my head he was there and he'd made a phone call a couple days later.

Two weeks after I played my first gig at the Whisky. I had a bit of a name, a couple under the radar songs... I had something to put me in the door, nothing like the Dunne brothers when they came to Rod.

I was lounging out by the pool and all five of them drove in, a shitty van parked in the driveway. I can't remember what I was doing there, Mona was probably mad at me over the night before. I digress... They thought the move meant they were gonna have gigs flying out of their asses, I laughed.

I remember their faces so clearly.

——

"WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE?" Daphne raised her sunglasses, Rod sitting on the lounger beside her with a cigarette between his lips. She observed a couple starry-eyed people huddle around them. Rod coughed, "Daphne, meet the uh-"

He paused waiting for someone to fill in the blank, one of them shooting, "The Dunne Brothers."

"Ah, the Dunne Brothers," She fluttered her eyes, her attention falling flat onto the pool in front of her. The lead had softly smiled, "You know us?"

She was alarmed by the boy's voice, her eyes finally returning the favour, "No, I don't know the Dunne Brothers."

Rod had to clear his throat amongst the stare, "What can I uh do for you guys?"

——

WARREN: It was weird. There was some sort of tension with Daph and Billy from the get-go. I mean, we'd all thought the same thing I think.

EDDIE: I remember Billy couldn't keep his eyes off Daph and I was annoyed. [Laughs] Had one of those moments, y'know? That instant sparks and butterflies in your stomach, I felt that when I saw her.

I didn't really matter at that point, you could see how they looked at eachother. Something unmissable.

Two lost paths crossing.

Most of us talked over that first day thousands of times, we were blind. It's only now when you overanalyse it, you realise Billy was gonna be head over heels.

GRAHAM: It didn't mean much, there's no way. I thought Daph liked the look of Billy for sure, there was that gaze but Billy had wrapped his arms around Cami like he was letting her know honey, sorry to break your heart but I'm off the market.
