EDDIE: The label dropped us a week after the tour was canceled.
WARREN: They made us pay back our advance and everything.
GRAHAM: I kept us practicing as much as I could, Daphne stuck around which surprised me. I think, even if she wouldn't admit it, she started to like being in a band.
WARREN: I was working down at Malibu Harbor cleaning boats and doing a lot of mushrooms, Graham was working down at a body shop.
EDDIE: Basically we were back where we started. Worse, even.
KAREN: Daph sang lead for a for a while but the boys were insistent on finding a Billy replacement when he came back and told us he was leaving the band. Then Eddie tried to take the mantle, it was fine.
DAPHNE: The label kept me on. Not in the way I wanted, they wanted me to write for other artists. Now, that's a cool job for when I'm old and a mom but I wanted to be on the godamn stage.
I said yes with no intention of writing for other people. I wrote for me, sweet melodies and explosive hooks.
I finished Style about a week after Billy came back from rehab. I guess you'd wanna hear how that one came alive.
I was partying with Daisy and Simone at the Marmont.
——
IT WAS LATE, Daisy, Simone and Daphne were joining in on another Chateau Marmont party. Simone was doing some mingling of her own but Daisy and Daphne were too consumed by the music. The girls twirled eachother around, sang along to their favorite parts — they even tried to steal the microphone from the hired singer.
And they did it successfully. There was only one mic, some sort of security was being called but Daphne and Daisy sang along to the disco music like it was a karaoke night. They'd wrapped their arms around eachother eventually forgetting the mic despite the crowd that formed.
——
DAISY: Tyler Burton showed up with girls strung on his arms and Daph was rattled.
The entertainment industry wasn't the only place he dipped his toes in.
[Leans forward] Do you think that back then he had the money to do all the reckless shit he did? One good movie that broke even and he could have his house in the hills and every starlet?
Please. He wasn't just taking the drugs.
DAPHNE: Again, Tyler isn't relevant to this. We dated on and off, hell everybody knows we were married for ten years later. That's all you need to know.
DAISY: I think she knew the girls. I couldn't piece any of it together though, she ran out with him to the front of the hotel for a screaming match.
