Chapter 10 - Attack

*Thomas Pov*

"Well Thomas, welcome to the Glade" The girl smiled sweetly. "I'm y/n"

Thomas had a thousand questions circling through his mind. Where was he? Why was y/n the only girl? Were there grown-ups here? Why are there stone walls surrounding this place?

He started with a simple question.

"The Glade?"

Thomas turned in a slow circle, taking in the view. There was a large wooden shack, a fenced area with farm animals, some gardening grounds and a thick forest. Young boys were bustling around doing work. Thomas could see some smoke rising from a section of the largest building and grew hungry when he smelled food.

And why coudn't he remember anything?

"Its what we call this place" y/n gestured around her.

"So... so-so why am i here?" Thomas hated how his voice stuttered.

"Well-" y/n started but was interrupted by the tall dark-skinned boy behind her.

"Y/n just give him the tour alright. Thomas, Im Alby"

Alby didn't make any move to shake Thomas's hand so he just nodded at the boy. Y/n looked annoyed, and Thomas appriected that she didn't approve of the sort of... meanness of the boys.

"You going?" Y/n asked Alby.

"One more thing Thomas. There are rules here alright?" Alby's voice was stern. "Number one, never hurt another Galder. We have to trust each other"

Thomas nodded. The rule seemed sensible, and he felt a bit safer hearing the seriousness in Alby's voice.

"Number two, never enter the maze unless your a runner"

Now things were getting complicated. Maze? Runner? Thomas would have to ask y/n, she seemed to be the only one who would be willing to answer.

"Number three, don't touch y/n" Alby wrapped his arm around y/n's shoulder and she pushed him off with a laugh.

Thomas had already been able to figure that rule out. He had seen how the asian boy had kissed her like they were something more than friends.

"Let's go greenbean" y/n waved for him to follow as she headed towards the maze walls.

Thomas noticed that the girl had a limp, finally seeing the thin bandage wrapping around her lower leg.

"What happened to your..." Thomas felt awkward as soon as he began asking the question.

"We tried to climb the walls" y/n left it at that. The expression on her face told Thomas that she got that question allot.

And so the tour began. Y/n explained all she could. Her words were thought out and simple to understand. Thomas immediately felt trust towards her, and was even a bit relaxed by the time they got to the forest.

It was the last thing y/n was going to show him, after that it would be time to eat dinner. Thomas had laughed a bit when hearing that their head cook's name was frypan.

Since he was running out of time with y/n, Thomas decided to ask one last question that had been burning inside him since the start. Not "who put us here". To that y/n had just said the creators, looking clueless.

"Why are you the only girl here?" Thomas asked. This was another question she got allot, based on her reaction to it.

"I don't know. I came here... 2 and a half years ago with Alby and my boyfriend Minho. We built almost everything here, Thomas. You don't know how lucky you are to arrive now" y/n sighed, looking tired.
