*two weeks later*

Y/n's leg had healed very quickly. Happily returning to her normal routine with a limp and occasional aching. Lying in a bed for so long was driving y/n mad and Minho could tell.

They had frequently snuck out during the night, Minho carrying y/n to the grass. They would kiss and lay down, staring at the dark grayish sky.

But she, Minho, and Thomas had almost nightly nightmares. Y/n was lucky to have her boyfriend's arms to sleep in, but despite the many boys in hammocks around him Thomas was left alone.

Y/n gave him hugs but he refused to let her switch sleeping places with one of the boys outside and sleep next to him. Newt always said she was too nice to the gladers. But hearing how judging and mean many of the boys could be sometimes, y/n wanted to be a friend to all of them.

The nightmares were all the same for the three. Alby dying in some terrible violent way. Getting endlessly chased around by Grievers. Suffocating while squished in-between moving maze walls.

Thomas had earned much respect and popularity amongst the gladers after he survived the night. Gally thought about punishing him for breaking one of their main rules but Newt didn't decide to go thruogh with it. They all saw the effect on someone even after one night in the maze.

The gladers also treated Minho, and especially Y/n differently. They looked up to them with much more respect then before. Y/n wasn't seen as a nice girl anymore. They would be remembered as those who survived the impossible...

Y/n sighed, lifting her fork to her mouth and swallowing the lump of beet salad without chewing. She coughed, then cleared her throat. Next to her, Minho was wolfing down a large pile of his salad.

Y/n never had the heart to tell frypan that his salad was absolutely disgusting. Especially since Erik, a builder, was the only other who didn't love the reddish salad.

Minho left the table in a hurry, patting y/n on her shoulder and returning his dishes to where the sloppers (cleaners) would eventually wash them.

Y/n remembered the first time they gotten the glass plates and cups. It had been exciting to stack them In the new kitchen cabinets. There had only been four of them then. Alby had been alive then.

Y/n hurried over to where Minho was bouncing on his feet, getting ready to run the maze. He was taking Thomas with him, who had under protest, started training to become a runner. He looked nervous.

Y/n patted Thomas on the back and reassured him. Minho leaned forward and tried to kiss y/n but she coiled back. His breath still stunk of the salad.

Minho made a sad face and y/n plugged her nose dramatically, pecking him on the lips quickly before stepping back again.

She gazed at the pair as they ran into the maze, waving their goodbyes to y/n. It was odd, because she never would've been able to enter the maze again. Not only was she incapable of out-running a griever, it was just... bad memories.

Y/n turned back to the homestead and limped back into her bedroom. She rested for awhile, thinking about what was to come that day.

A new greenie. A new boy. Like always she would tour him, and hopefully not encounter any crazed Gladers who had been stung. It felt like much longer... but Ben had died only a month ago. Two deaths in four weeks.

Y/n heard the box alarm and frypan was waiting for her outside with his elbow extended. Y/n heart swelled just like every time anyone offered to help her walk.

The concrete doors slid open to reveal the metal cage that was waiting under them. Y/n could distinguish a form huddled on the floor of the box.

Two gladers pulled open the cage doors with their poles and hooks. The greenie was revealed.
