I nodded to Sunny, and she ran into battle with these ropes. They looked completely normal, but when she wrapped them around the heroes, their powers dissipated. I assumed she worked with antimatter, seeing as her dad trained her to kill a superhuman with weapons.
I gave a curt wave while I dealt with the nightmare lady, her suit was skintight latex, a cream or light pink color, with black seams and sleeves. From afar it could have looked like a reverse bodysuit, covering everything but her body. I could track her illusions and block them, along with getting a few cuts on her with my wings.
"Look here, we got ourselves a fried sidekick!" The drunk one drooled out, his current drink sloshing in his hand while he threw random light blasts into the surrounding buildings, causing a bit of damage.
I turned after Sunny joined me; her rope ripped around the lady while her dark visions stopped. I could see mist and steam forming around Markus's boots, his hands grasped tightly onto his chains. The other end of his chains were pulled tight with white electrical voltz exploding along their rods. I could see his eyes though, sure, and ready. I made the motion that I would attack him if we wanted me to. It was his revenge.
I watched as he smiled, shaking his head slightly. I wanted to run to him, to pull Ethan off his chains and rip him apart. The voltz reached his arms, the scars lighting up to mark where he was hurt before. The mist reached his knees, steadily growing up to his hips, then waist.
"Sunny, he's going to get himself killed. I must stop him." I started to move towards my boyfriend, my body moving before I knew it was.
"No, he is fine, let him do this. His Id isn't big enough to get himself killed. He knows you're here; he knows he has help. He knows his limits." She grabbed my shoulder, her hands firm in the small action.
"I never understood why you guys are all psychology nerds. Makes sense you must know your victims in the field, you have to know their psychological build as well as physical." I tried to lighten the air around me.
"He's going to kill himself. I'm glad he should have already. Shocked he made it this far." the lady laughed, her broken nose from my boot still making fresh blood along her face.
"He deserves to live. He deserves to fight and be human." I grabbed her hair and pulled her up by it, a cry coming out of her mouth before I punched her.
"My mother never told me to hit a woman, but I'll gladly beat the shit out of you." Eli commented, his gun making quick work of breaking her powers. His gun was reloaded by the time we untied her and shoved her away looking for our next target.
"That's right. Kneel sweety." Ethan mocked, in a poisonous, almost sickeningly sweet, tone. Markus had his chains wrapped tightly around his wrists and arms; the electricity still exploded around his arms while he pulled his chains closer to himself. His one knee was on the ground, firm in its hold, while the other was still holding its footing in the wet concrete. The mist continued to rise, forming a thick dense wrap around Markus.
"Markus, get out of there!" I screamed. The older man gave me a knowing look, like we both knew if he stayed any longer, he would die. I got the signal and rushed over to Ethan. The black of a wing blade hooked around his neck made me grumble while I used my wings to pull him off with extreme force, the blades of the axes slicing his arms open. I threw him to the floor, my knee shoved into his ribs while I ripped my feather from around his neck.
"Markus!" Sunny screamed, trying to get into the mist, the dense fog blocking her and Eli out. I used Ethan to push myself off the ground and to join the duo at the barrier.
"Aaron, can you find out what the fuck happened to this?" Eli turned to his husband. The shorter man, who was busy chaining the heroes up to a bike rack, joined us and started to cut through the mist.
"No, it's too dense, he's probably suffocating in there." Aaron worried, his blade barely making a dent in the harsh sphere. I could see Markus, his silhouette was still on knees, his chains recoiling into the bubble before reaching his hands.
"Markus come on. Don't do some stupid sacrifice shit." I called out to him. I tried to use my wings, trying to move the mist. The wing from my wings wasn't strong enough, the bubble never budged. Whatever happened that caused it to harden was scaring me. It was almost invincible.
"You won't get to him, he's gone!" The number one hero called out, the blood from his arms still dripped while he stood up, his sadistic smirk never leaving his face, "And now I have all the evidence I need, you kidnapped him, and now you've killed him. I will leave just as loved as any other day, and you will rot in hell."
"I wouldn't say that just yet." Sunny pulled out a small black box, the contents I was scared to know about, if she opened it. The cop cars and camera men with their big trucks started to show themselves, their cameras broadcasting to the whole world, on the large electrical billboards above us and all around the city.
I watched and she opened the box and then a solid click. Soon a large voice exploded over the speakers attached to the monitors. Ethan's voice. It was from a conversation I never heard of, but Markus's siblings all looked angry when they heard it. They lived that conversation and recorded it.
I turned my back to the commotion, my eyes focused on his dulling silhouette. The words Ethan spoke sent ice cold venom into my veins, but I had to stay with Markus, I would not leave him.
"Markus." I let out a quiet call, his body fallen onto the ground, limp and unmoving. He was unconscious from what I could see, his body tucked away into the light grey mist.
The audio stopped as the whole crowd was shocked at the news provided by the deadly assassins. My focus was on other means. Getting Markus out, and now. The police started to close in when I snapped. The world started to fade, my target was standing in my line of sight, and my lover was behind me, slum, and probably suffocating.
I raced at Ethan, my wings slashing into his sides. I held his neck firm in my hands as he started to choke. I wanted him to suffer like Markus was. I wanted his death to fit the crimes. My wings blocked the gun fires, the bullets hitting either Ethan, or the floor.
"Lucifer, drop him! Look!" Sunny screamed, a happier yell this time. I obeyed, dropping the now gasping man to the floor.
Turning around I saw light, dim at first but growing, rising. I could see the silhouette form, his silhouette. He was standing up. Soon the light started to explode around him, breaking the mist and letting it break, forming a soft fall to the ground. Then I saw the chains, the axe heads, and the electricity around them. His eyes were white, pure white without a trace of any iris or pupil.
"You need to try harder to kill me." he smirked; the chains started to glow while he spun them. In all honesty I was mesmerized. He had walked out of death and came back with a vendetta.
