"Shit." Akito Sohma cursed to herself as a stack of important family papers slid onto the floor. "Great now I have to redo all of that."

"Que sera sera, Aki. You need to rest." The loving words of her husband reached her ears as he rubbed her shoulders ever so gently. She leaned into his touch, her cobalt eyes fluttering shut. But she couldn't rest. Especially not when that woman still was looming around like a shadow in the dark. She haunted her son's memory just like she haunted her own. "Please, Aki. I miss you."

Damn him.

Damn him and his enticing words. Damn his soft heart and soft voice. His warmth and gentle yet harsh body.

Damn him.

Yet even when she was comfortable in his arms, the dreams still came. The gleaming of the blade as it swung towards young Shiki. The blood pouring down her own face, the harsh words of the woman of shadows.

Yet when she woke, Shiki lay curled up in between, sleeping so soundly. She ran her fingers gently through her son's hair, taking in his peaceful form. With the thought of her son's smile in her mind, she slept soundly the rest of the night. Her dreams filled with the things that made her happy.

No more nightmares.
