Someone is laughing at me, not with the same voice as that Tonghia creep, but with the same tone of cackle.
I started sensing it and then being absolutely certain I was hearing it when I registered where I was after the green portal disappeared. My old home in Barbados.
I haven't been back here since I went off at 17 to the police academy. To tell the truth, I don't know why I haven't. My mama and papa have been to Paris to visit me, but I always got them to fly out here rather than me there. I don't know who's doing this, but it would be safe to say Tonghia's involved.
"Show yourself, coward!" I shout to the air. "Whoever's laughing at me, come out and just face me!"
"Face you?" the voice responds. "I already did once."
The laughing stops, and I see movement come from the side of the house. I aim my pistol at him. "Hands up now!"
"You wouldn't dare," he snarks. Now he's finally coming more into the light. I gotta say, his voice is faintly familiar. But I can't quite put-
I freeze. I end up dropping my pistol in shock and have to scramble to pick it up. I hope my accident doesn't make it jam.
It's unmistakable. That's the bandit who broke into my house during the party, grabbed me by the throat and stole my grandmama's necklace. Back at the scene of the crime. He's even still in the same clothes as that night, and doesn't look a day older than I remember even though it was over 15 years ago. I've never forgotten what he looked like or what he was wearing. Why is this happening?!
