This is all crazy. I knew Bomani was not very right in the head, but so much so that generations of his families had the same ideologies? And I did what caused all this in an alternate timeline?
Doesn't matter. What I really must do is keep my family safe. Slytunkhamen The Second is in Asenath's arms, his mouth taped shut so he stops his whining, something I'm powerless to stop because these comatose apes above me are just too strong and relentless. But with everyone held down, I don't see how we can escape. This could be the end.
"Now," says the oldest badger, the one they are apparently calling James, "Sly Cooper, we will not grant you the privilege of witnessing our rise to power. Raccoons have no place in the world we are giving birth to."
"Of course they don't," Sly growls. "So one of you guys are going to kill me? While I'm pinned down and unable to prove to you who's the better fighter?"
"Well...no, not exactly," the younger badger laughs. "We're not going to kill you." She walks over to Carmelita. "She is."
Sly and Carmelita both say "Wha-" when the needle is shoved into Carmelita's shoulder. It must've hit a nerve or two because she screams as it's jabbed.
No one says anything, not even the bad guys. We all end up watching, us in horror, the others in amusement, at Carmelita fighting whatever that drop of liquid is doing to her.
"You think," she pants, "that you can brainwash me? I'm proven to be very resistant to that."
"Oh, no, that's not it in the slightest," says the older badger. "Because we're not doing anything to you. We're not changing a thing." He says it in a mockingly soothing voice. Doesn't work for him. "Just think about it, will you please? Right by you is Sly Cooper. The one who's a prideful lowlife." Carmelita grunts. "I'm just asking you to think about all the pain he's caused you. How he refuses to listen to your point of view, how he scoffed at your childhood trauma." Carmelita ends up no longer squirming. She stops. And seems to be thinking. "He's made a fool of the concept of law enforcement, a fool of the concept of good. And his ancestors? They've been nothing but thieves too prideful in their ancestries to be fair to the common worker. Isn't that right, Cooper?" I expect Sly to have an obnoxious and effective rebuttal, but he doesn't give one. "You've seen it. Your father even admitted to you it's the truth." The badger returns to Carmelita.
"This raccoon lied to you. Got into your head. Forced you to go against me at every turn, and then what does he do? He prefers a life of crime to a life with you, no matter how much you fight it." Carmelita sheds a tear. The guy looks over to the alligator, she does something with her fingers, and the guards get off of Carmelita. Letting her go. I wasn't expecting them to do that. She drops to the floor, like she's dreaming. He continues speaking into her ear. "Sly and the rest of his gang aren't heroes. They've convinced you they are, but they aren't. You keep letting Sly be free, you aren't a real cop. But you can prove you are. You can be the exemplary inspector you've been for a long time. Everyone in the police force looks up to you. Show us all, show your grandmother, that you will not let any criminals within your grasp keep hurting people. You let Sly and his gang go off the hook, thousands of people in this lifetime will be more starving and angry because he kept on going in his thieving ways."
Carmelita lightly gets up. She's breathing really hard. She looks more angry than I've ever seen someone in my life. She raises her head slowly and looks at Sly like he did something unspeakable to the person she cares about most in the world, like if someone killed Asenath and they were right there below my gaze.
"Carmelita!" yells Bentley. "What are you doing?!"
"Don't do it!" yells Murray. "You know that's not-"
The guards holding them down whack their heads on the ground and silence them. The other gang members try to stop this too, including Asenath and Pili. Carmelita doesn't seem to hear any of them.
"Carmelita..." I hear Sly say lightly. "No..."
