Y/n L/n, Welding Apprentice

The Prince looked at me with a stunned expression, before busting into laughter. "I am so so sorry, I spoke out of turn, please forgive me" I rambled out, feeling my soul leave my body out of sheer horror. Prince Larkyn continued to laugh, wiping small tears out of the corner of his eyes. "Well, well aren't you a loyal one, going even as far as to insult a Prince over this 'Sir Finn" The Prince snickered eyeing me up.

"Surely this calls for some sort of punishment" The Queen cut in, as I stiffened up once more. The King looked unsure, but not exactly pleased with my words about his son. "I supposed it does my Queen, L/n you are ordered to serve the princess for the next month with half pay" King Sora ordered. I simply bowed in response not wanting to make things any worse.

When I looked up once more the Prince caught my gaze, smirking at me.

Being on the Princess's service, wasn't the worst punishment that could have happened to you. Though you had a slight suspicion that the King went easy on you because of your connection to Sir Finn. They clearly had some history there, maybe Sir Finn was once his personal Knight.

"L/n, grab me that book with the orange cover" Princess Quinn ordered. I quickly moved to climb the ladder in order to retrieve the book. Handing it to her in a way that would assure we wouldn't touch. Since we were alone in her study, it would be improper especially when I was presenting as a man.

"You certainly changed, up though I don't blame you my dear brother has a way of putting the fear of the gods into people" She snickered at me. I simply just stood there surprised and not knowing what to say.

"Though I have to admit, seeing him be put in his place was a pleasure. Mother would have certainly scolded me if I dared to laugh" She continued, twirling her pale blonde hair around her finger.

"I meant no disrespect, my Lady, I simply spoke out of turn" I said formally. She just rolled her eyes in response "You're dismissed, I'd like to be alone". I decided to try and find Fitz to see what my next task would be. Knowing he'd be around the kitchen this time of day. "I see she sent you away, the throne room needs to be moped" Fitz said unamused I interrupted his break.

Ever since I insulted the prince he's been rather short with me. Swishing the mop around the pail of water I got to work. These floors won't shine themselves. I truly missed the warmth of hot iron and sword sharpening. Ever since I started serving the Princess I hadn't been able to use my trade.

"L/n" A familiar voice called out to me, I exhaled before turning to him "Prince Larkyn"

He stared at me with a mocking gaze "I'm shocked my sister hasn't run you ragged" The Prince mused. I kept my own eyes on the mop now resting on the ground "Princess Quinn asked to be alone" I said. Refusing to look him in the eye was my small form of rebellion against his tyranny.

"Look at your Prince when he's talking" He ordered, tipping my chin up toward him. With his warm tan pointer finger "Did you really think I'd forget what you pulled so soon?" The Prince continued.

My shoulders began to tense up, from fear or anger I couldn't tell. Prince Larkyn just stared me down, as I felt my lips begin to twitch from anger. "If looks could kill" He mused, finally letting me go, as I quickly stepped back. "You should really work on keeping a straight face, might get you killed around here if you don't" Prince Larkyn said with a mean smirk. I stayed silent as he finally walked away.

Laying in bed I groaned covering my eyes. There was a slight crinkle from underneath my pillow. Reaching around I pulled out a letter, it was sealed with Sir Finn's classic silver seal. He wrote back to me! Wait how did this even get in the room, man Sir Finn really does have connections around here.

'Dear Y/n,

Your Father's health has not improved, though it hasn't worsened, I hope that gives you some peace of mind. It's unfortunate to hear that you've been struggling in the palace if it ever gets too much. You'll always have a place in my business.

If you want to be able to navigate the palace life you must be careful. The King is a good man but I've heard otherwise about his children, especially his son. Be cautious of the young Prince, avoid him, and try not to stick out. I hear he has habits of toying around with servant's livelihoods. He should get bored eventually, and move on to the next worker. Stay resilient as I trained you to be, and try not to further provoke him.

If you ever are in need of advice, leave a letter under your pillow, I have a friend that assures me. That our letters will be kept private and arrive to each other.
