Y/n L/n, Welding Apprentice, Personal servant

Village Mora was by no means a small place but the marsh was enough of a hassle that townsfolk didn't expand the village much further. The mushy grounds to unsteady to build homes, various little critters that put crops at risk, and meager fish catchings. However it was perfect for more mischievous and adventurous children, or in this case a group of soldiers.

"Are you both absolutely sure no one will find us here" Fitz asked, cringing at the filth covering his shoes. "At this time of year most of the little ones are helping their families instead of playing in the wetlands" Dusk answered with a nod. You suppressed a laugh, seeing such high-ranking people struggle through the mud and muck. Now the camp was fully set up not just the sleeping quarters.

"Well, men–and er' and Lady I think we've earned ourselves a good rest tonight" Sir Akemi corrected, as Jacy softely chuckled. There was an air of hope within everyone even if it was with hesitancy. As soon as You sat by Dusk, restless exhaustion washed over you. Things were looking but there was a lingering feeling that things were not finished. Your eyes scanned the opening. Sir Laurance was chatting with Jacy, Fitz was wiping his shoes, and everyone seemed to be settling down. "I think..No I must speak with my Father and Sir Finn before we leave her" You quietly said.

Dusk looked at you softly "I get what you mean we could leave now if you'd like. I don't think there is anything else they need us for tonight" Before you could even answer Prince Larkyn cut through "My servant is needed as long he serves me" with coldness. As of late he seemed to be appearing when you least expected or wanted him to. "Your grace, I-There may not be a chance to see my Father again for a long time. I've served you loyally and will continue to do so, can you grant me this visit" The pleading in your voice did not go undetected. As Dusk tightened his fist, the Prince pondered at your request.

His first reaction was to shut the idea down right away, no need for you to become more attached to this place. But however, the tantalizing opportunity of learning even more intimate information about You was too good to pass up. "I'll allow it, however, I must be there to accompany you" Prince Larkyn plainly stated.

You and Dusk almost looked up at him at the same time, "But won't that put you in danger? The hour is late but what if someone still manages to recognize you?" You questioned in surprise. "Well then we'll see how well Sir Finn's training has stuck" Prince Larkyn simply shrugged off.

The walk home was...Uncomfortable to say the least. Dusk clearly wasn't pleased with the extra addition, Prince Larkyn for whatever reason seemed to behave harsher to him. "So this is where you were raised" The Prince observed. "Yes..But my Mother's kin was originally from a further West" You hesitantly answered. The moon was full and high in the cloudless sky. It was so late that the ones out were to be treated with suspicion. But not a soul approached the trio as they approached the homes.

Exhaling a shaky breath you looked up at your meager home "He's spending the night at our home, he had a fit of shakes and my Mother insisted" Dusk informed.

"I don't want to interrupt I'm sure everyone is asleep and the last thing anyone wants is to wake up little Dawn" You lightly jested.

"You are more than welcome to spend the night and see everyone first thing in the morning" Dusk insisted. You gently smiled, as troublesome as he could be Dusk truly was a true friend.

"He cannot do that, we are not to be separated until this task is over" Prince Larkyn immediately cut in with a glare.

"Can our mightly Prince not walk himself back home" Dusk sarcastically pointed out.

With or without the moonlight you knew that Prince Larkyn was moments from gripping his blade. "Forgive we're all just exhausted, we can just stay at my own home" You quickly suggested without thinking. Prince Larkyn turned his head in slight surprise before nodded. "W-wait alone are you sure" Dusk raised his eyebrow in concern. "Yes...Just trust me everything will be fine I'll see you tomorrow" You reassured. "Come Y/n let's go" Prince Larkyn stated. As You and the Prince walked away Dusk stayed at the door watching.

What the hell was I thinking inviting a literal member of royalty to my hut of a home. Shit I'm going to have to sleep bound up, it already hurts so much...I just need to endure it for a little longer. I have to talk to Dusk alone as well at this rate he's going to lose a finger or a hand if this keeps up.

"This is your old home" Prince Larkyn said, his eyes scanning the chipping wood structure of your childhood home. "Yeah, it is" You mumbled softly. The home was cluttered but less than you expected. Larkyn simply stood in the middle of it almost like he was trying to soak up every detail.

EXTRAS: Larkyn and Quinn's childhood relationships

I had fun writing this part diving into character relationships makes the story stronger for me!

Asked by @lol_idkXD1

Larkyn and Quinn had no shortages of companions as children. As the Heir and Princess both were encouraged by their parents to make useful connections and relationships. Rarely did any go further than political fodder and loyalty towards the ruling family. For a young healthy man like Larkyn there wasn't a rush for him to wed. With the King and Queen generally staying in good health and running the nation peacefully.

It is not unheard for a Prince or even a King to take a lover or father bastards. However Larkyn was only interested in preserving his family heritage. So very few lovely ladies made it to his bed. And it never more than once or twice. No one had ever really challenged him as a boy or man, save his own father. Surrounded my 'yes men' shaped his views on anyone deemed slightly incompetent or oppositional in his eyes.

Princess Quinn despite being the living imagine of a proper lady, had a more difficult time making meaningful relationships. As a loud and lively girl she was given more leeway than Larkyn by the King. But when it was clear that the Queen was unable to bring forth any more children, much less a male one. She was to be next in line until Larkyn's own children arrived. It was decided that she would receive similar training as her brother. Which is where her closer relationship to high knights began.

Though it was treason to speak it out loud most of the servants and lower ranking knights loyalty belonged to the Princess. Hence the rumors surrounding the nature of her relationships with them. Her closet companion being her handmaiden though she was a child of a noble parents she still chose to serve the Princess, even to this day. Though she had brief romantic relationships there was never one she considered true love. More like an attraction and connection at the moment.
