Y/n L/n, Welding Apprentice
"Fuck it's hotter than a coal fire out here" I muttered to August as we unpacked luggage from the large carriage. Today was no normal day the entire Royal family traveled to the East for diplomatic purposes. Out of the hundreds of servants working in the castle only a hand full were deemed useful enough to bring along. Luckily I knew a few familiar faces.
"You're telling me, I should have brought a bigger hat" August said walking besides me, carrying supplies. The East was known for having hot flashes and high humidity. Exotic plants bloomed around us while the hot sun burned above us. The horses had reached their limit needing a break, and we settled in a nobleman's land. The King and Queen had already left to discuss things with him.
"I kinda wish we didn't get assigned to this, could have had a few days to slack off" August whispered to me. "Don't let Fitz hear you say that" I snickered back. We stood in the shade of some trees after organizing the materials brought. "On your feet, the Sora's will be going into the town to meet with the other nobility" A knight announced, as I held back a sigh.
The heat truly has a way of sucking the energy out of you. I hope we'll be back before nightfall, I should get started on that letter to Father.
"Say, Y/n are you familiar with horseback riding?" Princess Quinn asked, stroking her speckled white stallion. "I can't say I am my Lady" I responded formally. There were other people around. And even the slightest suspicion of something indecent happening between the princess and I. Would lead to rumors with severe consequences for myself.
But she seemed rather unbothered in public or not with asking me increasingly personal questions.
"I always wondered how peasants got around without at least a horse" She pondered. Prince Larkyn approached us, as I visibly stiffened at his presence. We had not come into contact since the night I shoved him away.
"We are to leave at once, at the order of the King" The Prince announced to everyone. Then turned to me with a deceptive smile "L/n, help me saddle up" I obediently nodded along. I walked to his horse untieing the tether. He was truly a beauty and fit for a prince. A strong-bred golden brown long haired stallion.
Bringing him over to the Prince I kept a distance between us. Not wanting to test his volatility in the open. But I continued to feel his eyes following me as I prepared the saddle on the horse. "He's ready for you, Prince Larkyn" I said finally taking a peek at him. Sure enough, he was still eyeing me up while leading up against the carriage.
As we all moved on he ordered Fitz and I to walk near him. Under the guise of needing supplies on standby. But I suspected he just wanted to see me squirm.
The King and Queen were on a smaller but still fancy carriage courtesy of the noblemen. It was a scheduled visit to the largest East town. Prerton was a highly populated place, but not as much as the capital of the Kingdom. The sandstone buildings were a marvel to look at. Surprisingly there was an abundance of wells throughout the city.
A lovely little yellow bird landed in front of the Prince's horse. "Oh!" I said slightly surprised, with a grin on my face. I used to chase those same birds around town with Dusk when we were little. Those were really our most carefree days.
The Prince tightened his hold on the reign stopping his horse from shooing away the bird with its hooves. It wasn't often that he saw anything but discontent on your face. In fact, this might even be the first time he's ever seen you smile. At something as simple as a common bird. It stirred something unfamiliar in him.
