Y/n L/n, Welding Apprentice

"Man the capital is huge" You said wide-eyed. "Keep up boy, we still need to make it past the gates" The knight said. The place was lively with people mingling from shops to bars. The village you came from wasn't small, but nothing compared to the size of even the town square. The people also seemed a bit more well-off.

As you finally entered the palace another man was there to greet you. "Is this Sir Finn's apprentice?" He asked. "That I am" I replied straightening my poster. The man in front of me seemed to be in his 30's, he looked me up and down. "You fit the description, now follow me" He said as he started walking away.

Geez man slow down, I don't even know your name??

"You're going to be working with our armor welder half the time, and be a normal servant the rest. And you'll receive payment every month, along with staying in the servant quarters." He said as I walked by his side. "May I ask who you are?" I finally said. He turned to look at me almost offended I even asked.

"I am Fitz John and the main assistant to the Prince and the royal family. Since you'll be working in the palace your bound to run into a member of the royal family, I trust you understand how to behave" Fitz said. Seriously do I look like a child to you? Obviously, I won't be a compete tool around royalty.

But instead politely smiled and said "Yes I understand." Now were we at what looked to be living quarters. "You'll be staying here with some other new servants, work clothes are on the bed" Fitz informed me. It wasn't a bad setup, just small, and looked like I would be having a roommate.

I walked out of the room dressed in navy blue pants and a white button uniform. Oh hey looks like the other new ones are here.

As I joined the group, I just couldn't help but notice how...They were all men.

Wait this is the men's uniform isn't it? I didn't even think twice about it, it's so similar to something I would wear at home.

"Everyone, two of you will be in charge of whatever task is written" Fitz announced.

"L/n, Dion, you'll both be in the training area" I think I recalled where that was, Fitz definitely mentioned it. A boy your age walked up to you, "Hey there man nice to meet you, I'm Dion" he said in a chipper voice.

Damn, they all just think I'm a man. I wonder if that's what Sir Finn told Fitz. Maybe it should bother me, I suppose. But it doesn't really matter what gender I am. I'm skilled and a hard worker, that's what matters the most.

"We're on the same shift I believe, do you know where the training area is" I asked, as Dion nodded.

Eventually, we made it there, with me trying to memorize the halls of the palace. I thanked Dion for helping me and we went our separate ways. When one of the workers called me over to his stall.
"It's L/n right? I need you to organize these blades, those damn knights make a mess every time" The older man huffed.

As you got to the task, the sound of footsteps and swords clashing got closer.

A handsome young man trained with a guard. Not just any young man, but the Prince and heir to the throne. The rumors did not lie about his looks, but you hoped they lied about his harsh nature. Trying not to stare you continued with your task. But there was a certain sound of the swords made as they struck.

Taking a closer glad I realized the Prince's blade was slightly bent at the center. He had a growing frustrated look on his face, seemingly from the way his sword was striking. As they both backed off you saw the faulty weapon more closely.

He stopped training and suddenly marched over to you. "Hey what's the matter with this sword, is it so difficult to make it right," He said with a scowl on his face.

"Your Grace, I um–" My slightly off toned voice responded. Crap I sounded so nervous and unprofessional.

"Do you want me to take you out on the field and test its cuts on you" He sneered. I tensed up trying to keep steady. One wrong word or gesture could land me in a world of hurt.

"It's my first day working here, I can make adjustments or help pick out a new one altogether," I said as calmly as I could muster. Dusk's words came back to me "Don't piss off anyone who can have you killed".

And oh boy if anyone could have my head on a stake it's the Prince.

Before he could say anything at all Fitz approached "My Prince, the King is requesting your presence". With a final glare towards me, he walked off with Fitz. This must be divine intervention.
