Y/n L/n, Welding Apprentice
Some of the adrenaline had finally left your body. And now your scrapes and injuries were stinging. Despite that, your heart was still racing at the upcoming danger. By the grace of the gods the wind had shifted and the smoke was drifting in the opposite direction. "Every single one of them involved will personally meet their end by my sword" Prince Larkyn muttered darkly.
"Honestly at this point, I wouldn't blame you" You stoically responded. He turned his head at you with an approving gaze. The dense foliage was now reaching your ankles. Various shades of lovely green. The sharp bristles however not so lovely.
A few nearby voices caught your attention. And before you could take another step Prince Larkyn gripped your wrist. However, it wasn't a harsh grip, but rather gentle. In a way you didn't think he was capable of doing. Even he looked surprised at his gesture.
The voices got closer as you both crouched for cover. The men did not seem to be rouges judging by their laid back demeanors. But you didn't miss the knife strapped to one of their belts.
Given their slight accents, they must live in Prerton, maybe they could help us.
Slowly Prince Larkyn started to rise and you followed. Their eyes widened taking in both of your roughened state. Before either of you could say anything, the short man spoke. "Your majesty! We are so glad to find you, the King sent us to find you" He rushed out. You felt a sense of relief at his words. But the look on Prince Larkyn's face had you rethink the thought.
"I see, where is the King and Queen? What state are they in" He asked calmly. Suddenly the man next to him scratched his neck before speaking. "They are both in good health sire and nearby just follow us" At his response you and Prince Larkyn met eyes. His stormy eyes filled with suspicion.
The third man met your doubtful gaze, and reached back. Metal clashed with metal as blades met. However, you had your sword turned at an angle. Slicing a part of the man's wrist as he dropped his weapon from pain. A clever move that Sir Finn showed you.
The other two quickly drew out their blades. With swift moves, you managed to push them further back. The Prince quickly caught up, something out of a storybook. How fast he was able to twist and slash.
"Damnit, they never mentioned he was with a guard" The short man hissed in pain. You smirked to yourself. Talk about a roundabout compliment for a simple servant.
Before Prince Larkyn could bark out an order an arrow shot through one of the man's skulls. The galloping footsteps of a horse and men approached. Prince Larkyn pushed himself in front of you as they came near. "We might not make it this time" He darkly said.
You'd think a sense of grief or fear would rush over you. But alas something else washed over you. A rare moment of serenity. "Heh, Dusk will be so pissed" You muttered with a weak laugh.
Prince Larkyn took a good long glance at you. Truly he was a beautiful man, even with ratted-up caramel brown locks. Especially more so without a disdained look in his eyes. He opened his mouth to say something before voices rang out.
Your knees almost buckled from relief at the familiar faces. The knights quickly rounded up the rest of the imposters.
"Hey, Y/n!" A familiar voice called out, and a roughed-up August limped towards you. You bolted towards him and engulfed him in a hug. "What the hell man I thought you were dead" You said with a shaky laugh. "Please, you look like hell" August laughed. "Out of the way servants" One of the knights ordered. Moving out of the way you surveyed the area trying to see the Prince.
As the flood of knights, guards, and other allies from Prerton you found yourself separated from the Prince.
Now in the safety of the town, you felt the full effects of your injuries. Most of the people who came from the castle had been stationed in the Lord's hall to reorganize. Thankfully by the time you and August arrived medics and healers were patching people up. Though the chaos had not died down with no word of the King and Queen's condition.
"Where the fuck did they go" Prince Larkyn hissed as he was administered pain medication. The doctors looked unsure of who he was talking about. Much to his annoyance even in this weakened state. Rarely did he feel such longing for anything really, but he desired your presence.
