May viewed herself in the mirror. Her hair messily hung in front of her eyes as she brushed them away, groaning lightly. She hated this new place - it was far different from her past home. She huffed, a recent memory suddenly running past her mind.
'May, we're really moving. This house is finally sold, and we're going to live all the way on the other side! You need to see the photos, it's absolutely beautiful there,' Caroline breathed, pushing her phone into her face.
A look of disgust flashed by Mays eyes as she glared at the pictures shown on her phone. Furrowing her eyebrows she looked back up. 'Really? You're really going through with this? B-But I don't want to leave this place, and Max doesn't either! And you both know that!' May whimpered, her eyes pleading.
'I know. But It's going to be better there, darling, I promise,' Caroline hushed as she took May in for a hug. May clenched her teeth, furiously trying to blink back the hot tears forming in her eyes. 'But I don't want to go,' May whimpered again into her moms chest, resulting in her mom tensing. 'It'll be all right. You'll love it there.. I promise.'
Only the mere memory of how soft her voice sounded made her blood boil. She didn't want to leave the old house. May at least cried for days, trying to process that the house she had spent her entire life in would soon no longer be where she stayed at - if anything, she was sure she'd never see this house ever again.
Nearly biting on her cheek, May grumpily brushed her bangs around her ears. She had to leave her beloved school friends behind, and she refused to leave this place.
Max didn't seem like he was enjoying himself either. The usual spark of excitement in his eyes had disappeared- he was no longer that nosey and smart, now he was just quiet and introverted, refusing to ever say anything.
the only ones that seemed excited were May's parents. selfish as ever, May thought, clicking her tongue before starting to comb her hair. Her teeth was clenched and she couldn't help but feel angry only. She tried to ignore her parents as much as she could, even though she was aware ignoring them wouldn't make them move back into their own house.
After anything, the house had been sold anyway. There was no way of bringing it back, let alone go back to her old city. They were far away now, to a place she had never ever been before.
Sliding her new messy closet open, her gaze rolled across the closet, scanning all the clothes who were piled up. It was late-summer, so before you know it autumn would arrive. She grabbed her normal sunny attire, knowing that within a few weeks the weather would change drastically and she'd have to wear warmer clothes again.
Her mom wasn't wrong though, the place they were staying at was simply beautiful. Any person would have admired the place. And honestly, May did. May admired the place. But she liked it no better than her old home. She missed her old bed, her old window. She missed how she could open the window and hear little kids playing outside.
It wasn't the ideal life, but she had gotten used to it, and for that was all that really mattered.
And now, today would be the first day of school. The first and probably most toughest day that she would have in this place. At least there was a silver lining - one of her old friends, Dawn, happened to go exact that school she was going to attend.
The knowledge of Dawn being by her side gave her comfort. But that of course didn't make her appreciate the sudden change of path at all. May stumbled to her window, pulling it open. May shivered before a cool breeze hit her skin.
A smile tugged her lips. Although this wasn't what she'd hoped for, she had to make the best of it. And whether getting used to this place would take days, weeks, or months, she would learn to appreciate this place. After all, her parents let her decorate her own room.
Now her room was empty, a few boxes scattered around with items and stuff she had back at home. She snapped back to reality as she looked into her closet again. She temporarily debated on what to pick, since she'd been out of ideas.
She wanted to put up herself perfectly. Make a good first impression, and not seem like a sore loser without a life. She just picked a short, breezy skirt, and a wide short sleeved shirt. Along with that she picked knee-high socks. It was still warm, but she just liked how they looked on her.
It was an easy outfit, something that all her peers would wear. She turned around, taking a deep breath before storming off the stairs. She had taken a long time spacing out, she couldn't bare on losing more time. After all, she'd have to come on time.
Max was sitting downstairs, all on his own, stabbing his pancakes with a fork absently. I frowned at him before running up to him. 'Did mom and dad bake pancakes?' She asked, almost drooling at the sight of food that was settled before her. Max nodded. 'Yep.'
May smiled cheekily before running over the counter, placing two pancakes on her plate. She settled down next to Max. 'I suppose Mom and Dad went out for work already? It's such a surprise they already managed to find a decent job,' May commented.
'They always manage those things,' Max spat, annoyance flashing by his eyes. May sensed Max was still absolutely furious about the fact that they moved away. May began devouring her food on her plate. 'They sure do,' May chimed in, mouthful.
'We've got to leave on time though, Max, we've got to take the train-- not only that, but I've got to drop you off of school there. It's rude of mom and dad just to assume I've got time for that,' May mumbled anxiously, dumping the rest bit of pancake into her mouth.
'I don't know what you're saying but it sounds like you want me to hurry up. Well, newsflash, I've got everything ready and I was actually just waiting for you to show up and take me to school.' Max exclaimed grumpily, shoving his plate into mays before standing up.
'Calm down-- I'm done too, hang on just one second,' May huffed, standing up from er empty plate before rushing to the hallway, grabbing her shoes, bag, and jacket. 'Well, what are you waiting for? Come on,' She yowled at Max, as he lazily stood up from his chair. 'Right. Coming.'
May tightened her fist around her bag, her heart pounding. Where the hell was Dawn? Warily glaring around, almost zoning out, she got snapped back to reality by a highpitched yell. 'May! May, it's you, hi!'
May quickly turned around to be met by Dawns cheeky smile. Running up to her, she had her bag hanging on her shoulder and it seemed like she had been in a hurry. Clenching her teeth she came to a halt. 'I'm.. here..' Dawn murmured, panting. 'Almost too late?' May joked.
'You bet! Come on, come on in. I've got to show you around,' Dawn cheered excitedly, reaching for Mays arm as she playfully tugged her along. May flinched before trying to process what was happening. 'Yes, I'm coming, hang on-- Don't pull me!'
