Wei Wuxian broke through the ward of Cloud Recesses. A letter in hand, covered with his own blood after he coughed up blood from the sudden news.

Lan Wangji, Hanguang Jun, is dead.

He was sentenced with thirty three discipline whips for defending Wei Wuxian, and fighting his own people. Wei Wuxian was furious. He stormed into Cloud Recesses and went straight to the Jingshi. Blood was seen on his bed but Lan Wangji was not there. Wei Wuxian felt his heart break.

He had the Wens in a safe place and no one can get them. A'Yuan was safe, so he can live a long life. He decided he would turn himself in. He then stormed the main hall of Cloud Recesses.

"Wei Wuxian!" Lan Qiren yelled, "how did you get in here?"

"You need stronger wards, Elder Lan," he answered. His eyes were crimson red and his flute Chenqing was at his waist, "plus I did not come here to fight. If this letter is to get me to turn myself in, then you fucking win!"

Lan Qiren looked at the bloody letter on the floor that Wei Wuxian tossed his way. Reading the top sentence, Hanguang Jun is dead! He too, was surprised.

"You win, Elder Lan. I fell in love with him but I can't have him because of what I am. I am apparently a killer and I am no good. I am the scum of all scum," Wuxian said, "but you should know, I had no choice for the path that I chose. I'd have died a long time ago if I did not take it."

"Wei Gongzi, why are you here?!" Lan Xichen asked furiously and saw that he was falling apart. He then saw the letter, "dead?"

Lan Qiren shook his head, "tell us your side of the story," he said.

"I can't, I promise to take my secrets to the grave with me, and it seems to be the only place where I am welcome these days. I did not cast that curse. That jin guy is dead and the backlash would have come to me if I cast it," Wuxian removed his robes leaving him in his trousers, "no curse, just skin, scars, and bones!"

Lan Qiren noticed the scar over Wuxian's dantian, "how did you get that scar?"

"I was cut open," he answered.

"Why?" Lan Xichen asked.

"I gave up something to save my sworn brother from himself. I gave up something no cultivator would ever even think to consider giving up. And I did it for him. And it seems my choice, that I never regretted, brought more harm to everyone than ever," he answered and crumbled to the floor, "Lan Zhan knows, and he tried to help me. He helped me hide the Wens who are just elderly and a child. He helped me by trying to play cleansing to me. It doesn't help, the pain is always there...and now he is gone because of me...I'm so sorry!! Please just kill me!! I can't live with this pain anymore!"

"What did Wangji know?" Xichen asked.

"That I do not have a golden core," Wuxian answered and hunched over sobbing.

Lan Xichen's eyes widened and knelt down beside him. He took Wuxian by the wrist and checked, and it was true, there was no sign of the living force of the golden core inside of him.

"He speaks the truth, Shufu," Xichen said, "it's not there...Wuxian how did you lose it?"

"I gave it to Jiang Cheng," he answered, "Wen Qing is the best doctor in Qishan. She came up with a theory of the golden core transfer...I'm the first one to do it. The chances were fifty percent and I was awake for two whole nights and a day with no anesthetics or pain medication. It was all raw. I felt every second of it, the core leaving, feeling so warm and suddenly I became so cold. I'm just a burden now. I was thrown into the burial mounds by Wen Chao. I learned to use resentment to save my life and get back to my siblings. Lan Zhan eventually managed to get me to tell him everything, but in doing so...."
