A/N: 2k!
"Mom? What are you doing?"
Kat rubbed her eyes and stood, facing the redhead that was her mother. She had just been shaking her awake, both of her hands resting on Kat's shoulders.
"You were having a nightmare. I heard you crying so I came to wake you up. What happened?"
Kat shook her head, wiping the sides of her eyes. "I wouldn't say it was a nightmare. More of a memory." She tucked her knees in and turned to face Natasha. "Did you find him?"
"We... did, I suppose. But he didn't have the stones."
"What do you mean he didn't have the stones? Where are they?"
"Kat," Natasha rested her hand on Kat's knee, trying to find it in herself to lie to her. To say that they knew where the stones were, but she couldn't. It would hurt too much when she found out the truth. "He said they didn't have a use anymore. He used the stones to destroy the stones."
Kat sucked in her breath. Suddenly the hollow hole in her chest grew visible again. "No... no, that can't be. Is that possible? No, that's not possible. What-"
Natasha grabbed onto Kat's hands and looked into her eyes. The crystal blue hue was shining with tears that had not yet been released, and Natasha felt her heart sigh at the look she was giving her. "I'm so sorry. I wish it weren't true, but Kat, we lost. This was the real fight."
Kat swallowed hard, her mind wandering back to what Doctor Strange had said to her and Peter. "No, it isn't. This battle has only just begun."

Five Years Later
"Morgan? Morgan, where are you?" Kat laughed silently as she slowly snuck up behind the five-year-old and covered her eyes with her hands. "Found you."
Morgan shrieked, trying to fight back as Kat tickled her sides. "Stop! Stop or I will disintegrate you!"
Kat gasped, holding a hand over her heart and stepping back. Morgan held out the iron man fist she had found in Tony's garage. "You wouldn't dare!"
"Yes, I would." The little girl crossed her arms, shaking her head.
"Okay... let's make a deal. How about I make you some lunch and you don't disintegrate me? That sound okay?"
"Mm... okay."
Kat picked Morgan up with a grunt, holding her by the waist. "Wow, you're getting big! When's the last time I saw you, a month ago?"
Kat placed Morgan down in a chair, passing her a bowl of Mac and Cheese she had prepared earlier. She could feel her phone buzzing in her pocket.
She pulled it out, checking the number. An unknown caller ID. Strange. "Hey, Morgoona, I have to take a call real quick."
"Okay." She responded with a chirp, continuing to eat her food. She barely noticed how Kat walked to the other end of the room, answering the call.
"Hello? Who is this?"
"Hey, uh, Kat?"
"That's my name... who are you?"
"It's Scott."
"Scott..." Kat glanced over at Morgan who didn't pay her any mind. "How... what? How is this possible?"
"It's a little weird to say over call. Thanks for answering, by the way. I'm surprised you did, but getting to the point, there might need something we should discuss. Can you meet with me anytime today?"
"Um... where are you, exactly?"
"Close to the compound. Are you there right now? I was about to knock on the door."
"No, I'm not. Just... go there. Explain whatever you can. Natasha and Steve will be there, they can help you. And suggest, even though they won't like it... that they should meet with me and Tony."
"Tony as in Tony Stark? The guy we went to war against?"
Kat nodded to herself, biting her lip in remanence. "Yeah, that's the one. I'm over at his house for the week visiting, but our vacation might be over now."
"You're right about that. I gotta get to business, but take care, okay? You never know when you'll lose five years of your life."
"Okay, Scott, thank you. Take care." Kat hung up the phone and rested her head against the wall. What the hell was happening?

"Tony! Tony, get down here please!" Kat yelled across the house, holding Morgan in her arms. "He never listens, does he?"
"Did Morgan throw up again? Is she sick?" Tony came filing down the stairs, sighing in relief when he saw that his daughter was okay. He took Morgan from Kat's hands as she beckoned him over to the window.
There was a car driving up, and out came Natasha and Steve. With them was Scott Lang, one of the vanished. "I'm going to take Morgan to Pepper. Go greet them and ask what they want."
"I know exactly why they're here."
Tony groaned and rolled his eyes. "If this is another one of your ways to get us to reconnect, it's not happening."
"It's not. You know Scott shouldn't be here, but he is. And whatever is happening that's bringing him back, we are still Avengers, whether you like it or not."
Tony huffed. "Whatever, let's just get this over with."
