Benimaru's POV:

As I watch the last of our forces cross the border between the Great Jura Forest and the Harpy Kingdom Fulbrosia, an uneasy feeling settles in my stomach.

Shion: Where's everyone?

Diablo: Were you expecting them to come down off their mountain and greet us in the open fields?

Shion: I-

Me: Stay on alert. There's something off about this.

Diablo: You sense it too?

More than the absence of any greeting party, the surrounding land is entirely devoid of life. There are no birds, no bugs, no nothing. It's as though something has scared them all away.

Shion: C'mon, there's nothing-

She's cut off as a hole opens in the ground beneath us. Diablo and I, who were ready for anything, easily avoid falling in but Shion isn't so lucky and plummets down into the abyss. The rest of our forces manage to get out of the way in time but before any can get their bearings there is a loud war cry from all sides.

????: AAAAAAHHHH!!!!

A spear barely misses my cheek as another bounces aimlessly off the multilayered barrier surrounding me. A few arrows miss Diablo but he's far less forgiving and immediately eviscerates the direction from which they came.

A cry goes out as the smell of burning flesh rises into the sky.

Diablo: Pathetic!

Me: Form up!

Shion jumps out of the hole before it closes with her sword at the ready. Swinging down, she splits the ground off to the left causing more enemies to fall but most escape by taking to the skies.

Me: So this is our welcome party...

Diablo: Means Fulbrosia is free for the taking. How about a little wager-

Shion: You still think you're stronger than me?

Diablo: Only one way to find out. May he who kills the most win-

Shion's off in a blur, carving the frontlines of our enemy in half as she begins ploughing through their forces. Those in the rear begin peeling off but find their paths blocked by Diablo who makes quick work of any stragglers before turning to the main force. Two swipes of his hand later and they all lie in piles of carved-up flesh.

Me: Do try to show some restraint. We aren't here to wipe out the Harpies.

Shion: It's not my fault they chose to fight against us.

It's not quite that simple. I mean, we were the ones to move in with an army first though judging by how they were already waiting on us, it's likely they planned to side with Demon Lord Guy Crimson from the start.

Diablo: If you want to spare most of their forces then we'll need to skip the army and go straight for the shepherd of this flock.

Me: I doubt killing her will prevent them from charging to their deaths.

Diablo: Who said anything about killing her?

Huh?

Diablo ignores the obvious question written across my face, instead, flying upwards toward the castle on the top of one of the highest mountains. I follow, leaving Shion behind to command our forces with the order to detain the remainder of Fulbrosia's forces.

When we arrive at the castle, however, we're greeted by a group of Harpies that immediately attack us.

????: RRAAAAAAHHH!!!
